Car seat question.............?

My husband just bought an S10 truck and my son is 6 months 21 lbs. You CAN turn off the air bag for the front seat. Can my son go in his car seat (rear facing) in the front seat of the truck. I just need to know if its illegal or what. I couldn't find anything online..Thank You

Legal? YES

Safe? Not the safest option.

Babies and kids are always safest in the back seat of a regular vehicle. Trucks offer a lot less protection in a crash b/c the cabs are so small, putting the child closer to any points of impact. Since the airbag can be turned off, it is a viable option, but I would avoid unless there was absolutely no other choice. Realize that in an accident, rear facing seats are designed so that they 'cocoon' up, that is, the front of the seat (at the front of the car) will fly up in an accident, putting baby high at risk to slam into the close rear window of a truck cab. If I absolutely HAD to put my child in a truck cab, I would want one that can be tethered rear facing. The only brands that currently allow that are Britax Marathon and Sunshine Kids.
