what are the chances if hit on the side at a high speed and your wearing your seat belt that you will not have very serious wounds?

Depends 100% on the actual accident.

Hit by what? If you're hit by a high speed bicycle, you'll be fine. Hit by a high speed 18 wheeler, and you'll die regardless of safety equipment.

What type of vehicle are YOU in? If you're in a VW beetle, you have far less chances than if you're in something like an H1 Hummer.

How fast is "high speed"? 60mph? 100mph? 100+?

What side are you hit from?

Etc, etc, etc.

So, there's roughly an infinite number of variables that play a part in what injuries you'll suffer, in an accident.

But regardless, the chance of surviving is higher than without a seatbelt.

It is unlikely to be hit at a high rate of speed on the side of your car. This happens when a traffic light is run or someone turns onto a street while you are on it. Your seat beat will help you. If you do not wear it when hit on the side you are likely to get tossed to the other side of the car or your head will hit the window.

Your chances of surviving are MUCH higher if you are wearing a seat belt as opposed to NOT wearing one. It's been proven time and again that seat belts do save lives.

I should know...from a personal perspective.

Once again, UCANTCME is absolutely right. He always is and I support his answers.

its true if you are wearing your seat belt and your in a car crash the chances are very high on living through a car crash thats the reason we wear seat belts to pervent us from not dying you may be hurt or have some minor injuries but you will live if wearing a seat belt

If you don't wear a seat belt, your chances of major head injuries from hitting your head on the windshield or windows are extremely high or being ejected from the vehicle. Both of these things often result in fatalities but are highly unlikely to happen if you wear one.

Chances are a lot better that you will survive wearing a seat belt than not wearing one.

Best to wear your seat belt, but if you can't brake or accelerate out of a "T "bone crash situation ,and you think you are likely to find yourself in that situation, it's best to use a car with side airbags as well as front airbags. Hint.....learn to let the steering wheel slip back towards centre when accelerating out of corners and you will feel a lot safer.

It depends on how high the speed truly is. If you are going 120 mph chances are good you will be cream cheese regardless of the seat belt. You ODDS Of surviving a crash while wearing a seat belt are MUCH greater than surviving a crash if you were not wearing a seabelt.
The chances of dying while wearing a seatbelt in an accident are extremely rare. Most of the time what kills a person is not wearing it properly OR they break their neck on impact.
Most of the time what kills people in an auto accident if they are not wearing a seatbelt is the actual impact that causes a broken neck or internal injuries and then of course the lovely journey through the windshield.

UCANTCME
One out of every five drivers will be involved in a traffic crash this year.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among people age 44 and younger and the number one cause of head and spinal cord injury.

Approximately 42,000 people die in motor vehicle crashes each year. About 50 percent (21,000) of these people could be saved if they wore their safety belts.

More than 90 percent of all motorists believe safety belts are good idea, but less than 14 percent actually use them.

For every one percent increase in safety belt use, 172 lives and close to $100 million in annual injury and death costs could be saved.

Safety belts when used properly reduce the number of serious traffic injuries by 50 percent and fatalities by 60-70 percent.

For maximum protection safety belts should be fastened before traveling any distance or speed. Seventy-five percent of crash deaths and injuries occur within 25 miles of home. More than half of all injury-producing motor vehicle crashes involve low speeds under 40 m.p.h.

Motorists are 25 times are more likely to be killed or seriously injured when they are "thrown clear" than when remain inside their vehicle.

In a 30 m.p.h. collision an unbelted 160 lb. Person can strike another passenger, crash through a windshield and/or slam into the vehicle's interior with a 4,800 lb. force.

Motorists can increase safety belt usage by example and verbal reminders. Nine out of 10 people buckle up when asked.

Safety belt use is one of the best defenses against the unpredictable actions of the drunk driver.

I had a friend that was in a serious car wreck. The car was hit on it's side and the only thing they said that saved her life was her not wearing her seat belt. I know that could be a 1/1,000,000 chance but I thought you might find that interesting...
