Child car seat after a crash, is it covered by the insurance?
|
Myself, my mum and 1 yr old were involved in a crash today. Thankfully all ok except for bruises and aches!! I was just wondering where I stand with replacing the car seat. It was not our fault, a car pulled out in front of us, and we hit her. I know that car seats should not be used after an accident, but would it be covered by the other ladies insurance, as they are not cheap!

Chuck T is wrong. Child Seats (and seat belts) are only designed to withstand one impact. Just because you can't see a crack, doesn't mean that the seat's structure is still intact.
Its replacement ought to be covered by the third party's insurance. |

Your are right make sure you throw the car seat away, Ive worked at a leading nursery store and even if theres no cracks there still could be weakness to the structure.
If you are fully comp then yes you can get a new car seat if the accident wasnt your fault then the other insurrers will pay out.
Hope this helps |

All good companies will replace it if stated a child was in it at the time. Good luck. |

We claimed for a child seat after our car was written off by a stupid woman who didn't know that give way lines mean just that. And yes, we got the money. Her insurance paid.
Watch those aches by the way. I thought we all walked away unscathed. Two weeks later my right hip gave way - the whole joint was wrecked.
Eight years later I still have pain. |

It depends on your insurance policy, and the state/province you are in. There isn't a blanket answer that covers everybody in Canada and the US. Ask your insurance adjuster for replacement of the seat, and if it is in the policy, you will get it. If it is not, ask him to clarify the exclusion.
Was the car seat in use, and was it anchored by the tether and the seat belt? That makes a difference, too. |

Hi if they refuse to replace the seat, insist that a representative of the insurance company your claiming off gives you a written guarantee that the seat will not fail in a future accident. It will be a brave man that will stake his job on it and this is usually gets the required result |

I know as for as MY last wreck Here in WI they covered it the next day all we had to do was bring in a repict for the seat that we bought. We bought the best one on the market at that time and still use it today. The one that was in the wreck was the cheapest one. |

If you are insured with NU they cover the seat. Other insurers maybe?? However if it was the other drivers fault then they should pay ALL your costs, out of their own pocket if they have dodgy insurance. |

NOT NORMALY (AT LEAST SEATS CAN BE REPLACED THOUGH). |

Assuming the other lady was at fault, the lady's insurance will cover the loss as damage caused by the accident.
Although some insurance companies make advertising capital about covering child's seats, I suspect that most would pay as damage to vehicle accesories on or in the vehicle. |

as a part of the car that was damaged as a result of the crash it should be try claiming they can only say no and you wont know if you dont ask |

unless the seat took a hit it will be fine. check it for cracks but unless it has a crack it is fine. I have never heard to replace your car seat after a crash. |
