Considering how many accidents multitasking while driving causes, do you think that it should be illegal?

It really is illegal. It's called being distracted while driving. If you cause an accident, it's your fault. The problem is it's much harder for a police officer to determine that you're driving while distracted than it is for speeding or running stop signs.

Many people can in fact drive while on a cell phone, while playing with the radio, or other potential distractions without being a danger to themselves or others.

But that's the same issue with speeding (for example). Many people are quite adept at handling their cars or motorcycles at speeds that others would consider reckless.

There needs to be a "Distracted driving is immediately ticketable" vs a ticket only if an accident has been caused. Just like there is for speeding.

chavito you are somewhat correct but you are acting like this is some huge governmental debate.. which its not so chill out bro. No one is running thru the streets protesting cell phone usage in cars... we are just saying it is a fixable problem.. and it should be looked at a little bit and taken into consideration. It's more of a good suggestion with evidence to prove its reasonability then a huge enforced law like selling cocaine. I mess around through my mp3 player all the time.. and with all the songs on it, its hard to find the one i want. i find myself moving around a lot in the lane and im like 'DANG i need to pay attention lol' If people didnt address this problem then there wouldnt be as many cool technological advances in cars.. like having your mp3 song list pop up on your radio screen. and now you can even control your radio with a remote that attaches to your steering wheel. And headsets so you dont hafta touch your phone. OR having your phone play hands-free with bluetooth through your radio+sterio system. that's pretty tight..lol. I think you should only be able to talk on a cell phone if your using a headset, but if you were driving smartly with your cell phone in hand because you cant access ur headset atm that should be ok... also if you have cd's.. you should have them in your sun blocker thinger -P above your head. If you are excessively searching through your mp3 player and the cop thinks your driving to endanger becuase you were swirving a bit too much then that should be looked at also.. its really up to the car companies and audio/radio companies to come up with a cheap new technology to center the means of searching through your mp3 player to your dashboard instead of your portable screen. I believe these should be straight fines without license suspensions or insurance penalty's and they should be considered by cops when found to be dangerous or be a cause of an accident, but not overly obsessed about to the point it gets annoying. Hows that? lol. Hope that helps!

no it should not be illegal...worthless morons that think they own the road and think they don't have to understand how and where to drive should learn about responsibility instead of relying on the government to always regulate everything. I am so sick of always when the littlest things happen we need 20 new laws to fix it...thats not why we have a federal government. And another issue how do you police it, its almost as bad as seatbelt laws where they can just look in your car whenever they want, thats ridiculous...we have all been trained to see a pattern and then go cry to big daddy government to make it all better...but the problem does not lie in a lack of laws, it lies inside the morons that are killing people and the ones that raised them...

who's going to enforce such a law?? cops are overloaded now with being politically correct and not shooting until they are shot at. besides, you'd be the first one to complain if you got a ticket for putting another CD in while driving, huh?!
