Crashed into a car setting off onto a roundabout?

I set off behind a black cab onto a roundabout, he stopped i didn't, hit him at about 5mph and i did brake as well. No damage to my car at all, not even a scratch or cracked number plate. Yet he seems to have a bent metal bar behind his bumper, is this possible?

Yes this is possible. Even though you were going at a low speed, and he was sitting still, his car would intake more damage anyway, since you were moving. If your car is moving and his car was sitting still, then because you were moving his car would take the damage because of the force from a moving vehicle. Basically its the law of physics. Newton said, if an object is at rest and it is reacted upon by another object then the force is automatically greater. Also you must think about the weight of each vehicle. If your vehicle weighed more which it likely did, and the cab weighs less, then your car will automatically inflict more damage. I'm not sure how to explain your car not taking in any damage. But my theory is that since the cab was sitting still and you were moving then it caused damage to the cab.

Yes. Apparently the metal bar behind his bumper absorbed the energy of the low speed impact. Had the bar not bent you vehicle would probably been damaged. Something had to give. I don't know of any car that can survive a 5mph crash into a solid object without sustaining damage.

I wouldn't have thought that your car weighed more than a black cab as they're relatively heavy vehicles but as you were moving your car had more kinetic energy so yes, it's quite possible that you bent something on the cab without damaging your car. Also if it's a modern car then you should have energy absorbent bumpers which a black cab, depending on age, doesn't.
