D.O.T. Safety meeting requirements?

D.O.T. Safety meeting requirements?

I am an owner operator for a transportation company. As a self employed contractor am I required to goto quarterly safety meetings help by the company to which I contract? Is it a Department of transportation requirement?

No, but it might be a requirement of the company that insures your carrier. The company can obviously make the meetings mandatory even if you are an owner operator.

It depends on who's authority you are running under. If it's the carriers you are required by DOT to either attend or at least read the minutes of the meeting.

If it's your own authority, you are required by the DOT to have your own quarterly safety meetings.

I don't think it is..... but......it might be useful as a heads up if there are any problems with "other contractors" and you'll kinda "know" the scoop.
A well informed person can make informed decisions.
You'll also find out if the company you are contracted to "really cares" about safety issues, or just making a fast buck.

It is not a DOT requirement, however it may be a company requirement. Look at your lease agreement.
