Dangerous to drive when you need a wheel alignment?
|
I live in NY and I'm planning on a trip to FL. I was told I need a wheel alignment and I shouldn't go without one. Is it really that dangerous to drive there without one? I drive everywhere else and I notice it's semi tilted when I drive but it's fine.

Get the suspension repaired and the alignment performed - you will save your tires and experience a much more relaxing and stress free drive as opposed to fighting the car to stay in the lane and suffering the tore damage and loss of fuel economy to boot.
Without knowing the actual inspection results there could easily be one or more critical components worn well past the danger point which could easily fail and cause your trip to end up in an expressway ditch long before you get there.
If you, the driver can notice that it is "Not Right" or "Tilted" that means that it is very seriously out of alignment and that is most likely due to dangerously worn or damaged components.
Do not take the chance, GET IT FIXED !!! Do not risk your life or that of anyone else on the road because you are more interested in your trip than you are in being safe. |

Semi tilted?
If that's true, then you need more than just an alignment.
For a long road trip, you should have the alignment done. It's very possible to ruin at least one tire if you don't. There's also the fact that it will not handle and corner as it's supposed to. However, if it's TILTED, you have bigger problems. |

yup. u need wheel alignment.
it give you better drive safety and improve handling.
if u dont need wheel alignment then take ur own risk. |

I wouldn't say it is particularly dangerous, but what you save in tire replacement will pay for the alignment.
Unless the misalignment is due to a worn or broken part, in which case it could fail and you could lose all control. But as pappy used to say, won't hurt me at all! |

it definitely is yes .
the wheel alignment is basically there so that the wheels can run straight .
if not you do have the tendency to swirf on the road |

Around town may feel fine but at high speeds it can become dangerous. given that you plan to go out of town it would be a very good idea to get a wheel alignment. In Australia they only cost about $50. To me that $50 is money well spent as I have young kids in the car with me all the time. Remember its not just your safety at stake if something goes wrong if you have passengers you are responsible for their safety as well. When taking long trips it is a good idea to check your tyres are aligned & balanced & pumped up to the right tyre pressure. Also check your oil & water levels. If you don't know how ask your father, brother, male friend, neighbour or find a good mechanic that will show you how to do so you can do it yourself next time. learn some basic maintenance so you don't have to rely on a man to do it all.Having done lots of long distance trips & not having a fear of getting my hands greasy. On my van my husbands hands are too big to do some maintenance so I have to do it myself. I can check tyre pressure, change flat tyres, brake pads, check oil & water then top up both when needed and change spark plugs & the distributor cap. When my husband works on my van I hang around & watch & have asked some dumb questions but its the only way I'm going to learn. Another way is buy a car manual & read it. very boring but it may help one day when no one else is around to help. |

Cars generally stay aligned unless one of the components wears out
(e.g., spring sag, upper bearings stretch), you hit something hard or
you replaced shocks and springs.
If you notice any form of uneven wear, e.g., feathering, more wear on
one side than the other, it is time for an alignment.
However, it's a good idea to first replace the worn out part before
you do the alignment, and with the high cost of tires, it may be
a good idea to check things out then.
You can do some primitive alignment checks yourself to see whether
the car is at least in the right ball park. |
