SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP)—Danica Patrick paid a $196 fine to settle a speeding ticket after the star race car driver was caught going 54 mph in a 35 mph zone last month.
Patrick, the first woman to win an IndyCar race, was due in traffic court Monday, but a Scottsdale City Court clerk says she paid the fine Wednesday.
The 26-year-old driver was pulled over by Scottsdale police Dec. 9 in her hometown while driving a 2007 Mercedes. A year ago, she was ticketed for driving 57 mph in a 40 mph zone in Scottsdale and was ordered to attend traffic school.
Scottsdale court records show the recent tickets are among several she has received in the past three years.
A call to Patrick’s racing team wasn’t immediately returned.

I agree with one thing, she is very attractive. However that does not give you as a celebrity or a regular citizen the right to break various laws. Laws are in place to be followed. She got what she deserved. Just because she is a celebrity and she is very attractive doesn't mean she should get off. That is what is wrong with our legal system today. There are cops that care more about what the criminal looks like rather than following their orders. I think they are out there to do a job and that is to give the punishment to those that feel the need to break the rules. Without laws there would be no order. And where there is no order there is chaos. Also, don't give me that about how she drives a race car. That has nothing to do with it. She drives a race car for a living. That is her profession. When she is a regular citizen just like the rest of us she is expected to abide by the rules like everyone else. It should be no different. She may be a celebrity but if she wants to live in society she will have to follow the rules like everyone else. No one is above the law and she shouldn't be either. |

No, If I was caught speeding I would not get a break, I would probably be lectured on the fact that speed limits exist to protect and that I could hurt myself or someone else....she may be beautiful but she is not above the law. |

She has more driver training than any of the officers that pulled her over. I can't reasonably understand why a ticket would be given, it's ridiculous. She likely uses a turn signal, looks ahead down the road for potential hazards, uses her mirrors, and isn't text messaging while driving. Forgot nothing, she knows how to drive a car, she does it for a living. End of story. |
