Designated parking bays outside your home.?
Find answers to your legal question.

Designated parking bays outside your home.?

Ive heard from an ex councillor that people in the nursing profession can get special bays for parking put outside their home. (much like the disabled bays for blue badge holders). This will allow emergency access to drive out overnight when needed. Ive looked on the internet government etc websites for info, but i cant find anything. I need to find out where i stand on this, anyhelp very much appreciated...

Highway Authorities DO have the power to designate certain areas of the highway for specific users. This is effected by the promotion of a Road Traffic Order - a legal process which then gives protection to the user of the space.

Road Traffic Orders are usually promoted to:
restrict parking for part or all of the day (hence the double yellow lines)
introduce parking bays for disabled drivers
introduce loading bays for businesses (there is a unique example of this in Hamilton, Lanarkshire to allow a bank to accept delivery of banknotes for a specified thirty minutes on each day the bank is open!)
to restrict parking so that a driveway is kept clear.

In theory, Road Traffic Orders can (and are) used to designate certain bays for use of workers in the emergency services. For example, in a congested parking area, close to doctors surgeries, so that a doctor can respond quickly to an emergency rather than first having to walk half a mile to the nearest multi-storey car park! I am aware of rare examples of such bays being designated at the homes of the emergency services, but they ARE rare.

Since Road Traffic Orders can only be promoted by a Highway Authority, it is to them that you should apply, For most roads, the Highway Authority will be your local Council. The response you will get will vary from Council to Council.

But, for trunk roads, the Highway Authority is the Highways Agency; in which case, forget it, the HA have never entertained such a request.

it might not be on the internet - so check out your local authority website for contacts to do with parking permits

The easy way to get a answer to this problem is to get in touch with your council roads and highways department. Good luck.

I think this guy is confused, Ive never heard of any special dispensations for nurses parking.

Maybe he means a special pass like " Nurse on call " for when you are on a call

J G
Nope, there is absolutely no way that this scheme exists, there are no parking perks for nurses.

You need to contact the Community and District Nursing Association in your area....
