I have been driving for over forty years. One would think I would have noticed the little secret on my dashboard that was staring me right in the face the whole time. I didn't and I bet you probably haven't either.
Quick question. What side of your car is your petrol tank? If you are anything like me, you probably can't remember right away. My solution is to uncomfortably stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look. If you don't do this in your own car you definitely have done it in a borrowed or rental car.
Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the petrol station or put your neck at risk of uncomfort or injury.
If you look at your petrol gauge, you will see a small icon of a petrol pump. The handle of the petrol pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the pump. If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left. If your tank is on the right.
I don't know how you feel right now but when I found out this morning I felt cheated!
Why don't the dealers share such important information with car buyers? I don't understand why this isn't in the driver's manual? I don't understand why any mechanic I have ever been to or know, has even thought of mentioning this to me? The only possible explantion can be that all these people probably don't even know!

Firstly this was posted for fun - secondly there are many (maybe even a majority) that now have two or more cars - driving in for petrol requires a little thought as to which car you're driving and just an easy way of having that reminder.
No different to those that fill up with diesel in a petrol car - it may sound 'stupid' but it happens...it can't be helped!
So, after having a week of lessons and my test soon after..past first time chummy - and that was while suffering with very bad flu!
So, knock me all you like :o)

on my car.. the petrol cap is on the drivers side
on work van the diesel cap is on the passenger side.
its funny when I see people in petrol stations drive in to the wrong side. |

Doesent matter I can park either side of the pump to fill up as the hose is long enough to reach,

It's even more surprising that many drivers don't realise that the filler pipe from the pump will most times reach around to the other side of the car. This is handy because most cars seem to have the filler on the drivers side (UK). My Combo van does, so while most people queue on one side of the pumps I go to the other. My own car is a Discovery, which is even better, I go to the lorry pumps, never a queue and a quicker pump. |

that's good information for those who don't have common sense but whenever i get into a car, borrowed or for work, i always take a second to glance at which side its on. if people bucked their ideas up they'd no longer drive into a petrol garage facing the wrong side of the pump |
