Do I need to provide a Car seats in Taxi's?

I'm just wondering what people do if they need to take a taxi with their children? Car seats are mandatory for babies and car seats. What do people do if they don't have a car and they need to take a taxi... do they have to provide the cab with one? We only have one car in our household, lets just say my husband was away with the car and I needed to pick my toddler daughter up from daycare and needed to take a taxi... would I need to provide a car seat?

Best answer: Yes, you need to provide one.

Some places exempt taxis from the *legal* requirement for carseats and some cab companies have 'loaner' seats.

However, the law is *not* why my child rides in a carseat. In an accident the crash forces rushing toward your precious child are not going to stop and check if she is exempt from being pulverized.

And those loaner seats? Are very often expired, missing pieces, and/or so disgustingly filthy you wouldn't let your dog ride in them. You don't know if they have every been recalled or damaged in an accident. You don't know much of anything about how safe your child would really be in that seat.

So... get a cheap 'spare' seat to keep at the house. If you ever need to take her in a cab or a friends car... you just have to install it and go. Really... it isn't worth the risk of her riding any other way.

If I couldn't have her in a carseat I trusted... I'd rather get her at the daycare, take a short walk and have hubby come pick us both up at a nearby coffee shop or library (etc) later. (I've done this several times with my kids.)

yes you would. Children have to be in a car seat until the minimum of 4 years and 40 pounds. Just because you have to take a taxi doesn't mean it would exempt you from the law. Plus it's safer.
