Do You Think Cell Phone Use Should Be Banned While Driving?

Yes. Cell phone use while driving should be banned. The reason is because cell phones are a distraction. When you are talking to someone on the phone, while you have the phone in your hand, you are not able to concentrate on the traffic around you. You are oblivious to everything that is going on around you. Your response time is decreased because the use of the phone takes your concentration off of the road. Also it is know that the driver is allowed to keep their attention off of the road at a maximum of 3 seconds. Basically when you are using the cell phone that window of concentration closes, and you run the risk of making poor decisions such as running a red light, failing to stop at a stop sign, cutting another driver off, and even resulting in an accident that can cause death.

So should milkshakes,coffee,magazines newspapers,cigarettes, crying babies, backseat drivers, elderly passengers,talkative types, and loud volume from the stereo.

Considering all the cell phones in use on the road these days is a ban really the answer? Are that many accidents really happening?

Teaching individual responsibility and blaming no one else if you are at fault is a better way to promote this.

Absolutely and I think driver licenses should be suspended for a year when some one is caught.

They are in the UK, that's why every one still uses them. Dumb or what?
Bring in the Â£1000 fine and we might get some where.
If the phone rings leave it, stop and ring back if it's that urgent.

YESSSSS! wayyyyyyy to many car accidents due to texting while driving! I am guilty of texting while driving and I openly admit that it is horrible. I have never got in an accident, but have had some close-calls!

Yes. I think there should be jail time too if you cause an accident because you're on your phone.

My car has a bluetooth speakerphone built in and when I borrow another car I always carry my bluetooth earpiece on me. I have ADD and ADHD so I must keep myself busy when driving in New York City traffic

No. It's an unnecessary law that would be nearly impossible to enforce and would make the legal system even more inconsistent than it already is.

If having a conversation with someone on the phone is criminalized, then shouldn't having a passenger in the car be criminalized?
