Do all cars have airbags?
Find answers to your legal question.

Do all cars have airbags?

Are all cars fitted with air bags in Australia? Like is there a law that says car manufacturers have to put at least one air bag in or don't they have to put any in?

Arram
Air bags in Australian cars are not mandatory. The Australian Design Rule that deals with frontal occupant protection requires only that manufacturers achieve given safety standards in relation to head, chest and upper leg injury. The rule does not specify the means whereby the standard is to be met. All new vehicles sold in Australia meet the standard even if air bags are not fitted.

But airbags seem to be a standard these days, most car models will come with drivers side airbags as standard.

The Dude
Yes, now a days all cars have airbags. if we go back to 1970, that's not the case, but now do. If you click on the link below me, you'll see it's not mandatory, but you have to meet certain safety regulations, and airbags help you meet those.

Phil
All new cars must have air bags, but not all cars do. There are many older, and used cars that do not have air bags.

WRONG Arram, i work in the Australian car industry and ALL new cars must have drivers side airbaigs fitted as a minimum.

our old car doesn't, you just stop when you hit the dash or steering wheel, rather depressing thought actually.

UCANTCME
Advanced frontal air bags, or 3rd generation, are being phased into new model year 2004 vehicles.

All light vehicles will have advanced frontal air bags by model year 2007..........so yes they do.
