Do low profile tires give a rougher ride ?

Do low profile tires give a rougher ride ?

My new truck came with 20'' rims and low profile tires. The ride is OK, but would it be smoother with 18'' rims and regular tires ?

Yes, tires with a higher profile will have more crush and filter more of the little imperfections in the road. But don't expect 20" to 18" to make a big difference. The higher profile tires only make your vehicle less sensitive to the little things, they won't make your truck ride like a Buick.

Small imperfections and surface texture of the road will be felt more with low profiles. Little negative effect on the larger bumps or potholes. Lateral body motion and cornering will suffer with fat tires.

The rims won't make that big of a difference. The suspension absorbs most of the "imperfections" on the road.

Yes low profile tires will give you a very hard ride and putting 18 inch wheels will not make much of a difference...

Are you Absolutely sure 18" rims will clear the brake components. The low pros are more of a performance type tire. Going with tires that have a higher sidewall will affect the way the truck handles.

Truthfully, I would leave it alone. It was designed to work that way and altering something like that changes too many variables.

yes, the main reason that low profile tires give a rougher ride is that they require a higher tire pressure, the higher the pressure, the rougher the ride. If you get some rims and tires with larger profile tires it will be a lower PSI and will be better.
