I just had an accident with my car, where i had to swerve from an on coming car slammed the brakes and ended up hitting the curb. The airbags went off, windshield cracked and the car ONLY drives in 2nd gear. someone PLEASE re-assure me that this 2nd gear problem is only a safety feature. (its a manual car)

Something in the shift linkage is probably misaligned or broken. First place I would look is the plastic bushings where the shift rods connect to the levers on the transmission case. It could be the transmission itself, but as long as its not leaking fluid, I would bet against that. |

yeah, you need to get it checked, you probably messed up the cluth, or flywheel, but im not sure. get it checked |

It done something to it especially if its a front wheel drive. The air bags going off is a major cost also. I'm afraid after it gets checked out your wife isn't going to speak to you for a few days. Good luck. |

All cars have transmission problems if the transmission is damaged.
I have never heard of such a safety feature.
I suggest looking up your specific year make and model car to find out saftey features it is equipped with. Check out your owner's manual or call the dealership. Or any place that does mechanic work for that matter.
I think you have damaged your transmission or clutch though. |
