Take a walk along the road in daylight AND TAKE A CAMERA WITH YOU. Any bits of road where the line is not visible OR DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE HIGHWAY CODE should be photographed and given in evidence at any appeals ! ! ! |

If the road is not clearly marked " no parking " then I would contact a lawyer to find out what legal options I may have, who knows you may very well be the next city hero if you make a big enough statement |

Of course it is unfair, and just another money making excersise targeting the 'soft touches' ie law abiding people.
As for the law, I think it all depends on whether the yellow line down the road has a little end stop line on it or not. |

well what was the offence?
It is an offence to park on a road with a speed limit over 30 at night without leaving your lights on - is this waht happened?
It is also an offence at night to park on the right hand side of the road.
You need to tell us WHY you were ticketed. |

If the yellow lines are not continuous and have the end mark at right angles to the kerb at the end of the zone then the lines are incorrect and can be ignored. Get a photograph of the road, preferably when there are no cars on it and send it to the enforcement agency disputing their right to enforce the parking restriction.
The local authority are obliged to maintain the yellow lines as continuous between the end marks. |

Read your your local byelaws and amendments to them, you may have been notified of these changes in the local paper. There are certain laid down procedures for altering usage and parking regs.check they have been properly complied with and the markings are of the legal requisites.good luck. |

The yellow lines merely tell you the extent of the parking ban - in other words, what stretch of road it applies to.
It's normal for the sign to "not stipulate how far the restriction goes up the road", that's what the yellow lines are for. Therefore, you've got a case.
And can people PLEASE stop saying that double yellow lines mean "no parking at any time"? They don't. The times are given on the sign. (Of course, it MAY be "at any time", but you don't know till you've read the sign.) |

you chose to park there despite the sign you take the consequences. This sign is binding there do not have to be yellow lines as it could be any kind of restriction, and why you say it is catching drivers out, the council dont force them to park there!!! |

Not sure about Scottish Law, but successfully appealed against a ticket maliciously issued by Birmingham Council, though to defend it actually cost more than to have paid it within the time (it was one of those that doubles if not paid within 28days), as I had to take a day off work, the man they sent to the tribunal actually said the signs were not legal and they hadn't got around to amending them in the 2 years since they had been put down, but they didn't admit that when I wrote to them & pointed out they were illegal and so had to go through all the rigmarole to get it rescinded. |

The city probably doesn't like the pub and they want to stir up trouble for its customers. The city where I live likes to generate trouble for nightclubs in our area, especially the bars that are black or are in poor neighborhoods. |

It rather sounds as though this is an illegal act on the part of you council.
but it depends on the by-laws
I would take photos of the street that don't have yellow lines as councils have been know to sneak in and slap lines down and say there ARE yellow lines in that street.
in Stoke if road works have obliterated a yellow line it is legal to park on that spot so long as your car does not overhang any part of a yellow line, but watch out for the man with the paint can while you are parked there |

Your best bet is to call the city's Parking Enforcement and ask. Here in NYC, if a road has a sign at the beginning of it and none for the entire length of it - even until the end - the sign at the beginning of the road still applies. Thus, if you get a ticket because you parked in the middle, there is no recourse and you must pay.
Better yet, go in person, write down all of the conversations, names and dates (times), and then when you stand before the judge, show this and give your explanation. It probably won't reduce your fine, but you can take it to the city council to show that you stood up against this "deception." Maybe then you can get some signs and markings put up.
BTW if your talking about the aberdeen I'm thinking of, then you know A LOT of the other folks who were ticketed. Get a petition and signatures, and take that to the council. Tell them that this is a community issue, and you want answers. Politicians will bend when enough voters push. |

The chances are at that time of night the ticket was issued by the police. you may have committed some other offence - parking facing the wrong way. you can always appeal and many appeals are upheld. good luck. |

I guess you could always buy some spray paint the same color as the roadway and. . . |

If there is not lines and not signs stating the restrictions then they cannot ticket you.
For double yellows, as of 2003 the council is not required to post an "At any time" sign.
If there are "Blips" on the pavement, then this means that there is no loading and unloading at anytime. |
