Do people not realize that you are supposed to stop for pedestrians at cross walks?

I have noticed the same thing. Do you stop for peds when you drive though? When I'm driving I have noticed that sometimes people congregate near intersections just to shoot the breeze and have no intention of crossing. Other times I have wanted to stop but glance in my rear view mirror and notice the tailgating SUV whose driver is talking on the cellphone. Since I don't want to get rear-ended I keep on going. When I'm walking I've seen drivers stop for me in one lane but not the other. I've even seen one guy pass the guy who stopped for me! I almost got hit on that one. The bottom line is in car vs. ped, car wins every time so be careful.

yes i see it every day i drive for a living and i also see them walk out into the road and not look to see if a car is coming also sorry thinking cars have to stop which most know they are but still one should look and wait til one does before walking into a car which will win sorry man maybe you need to bring that up with a local cop

Is there a sign requiring cars to yield for pedestrians? If there is, then these drivers are ignoring the law. If there isn't any light or sign, a car wouldn't be required to stop unless you're in the roadway. Once you are occupying the road, you have the right of way. Until then, cars have the right to continue driving down the road normally.

it is pretty annoying, in the tesco car park there are 2 pedestrian crossings like that, they are not traffic lights but they have the yellow light on top of the black and white poles and the stripes on the road which means they the pedestrian has right of way but i still have to stop and wait for cars as most people justdintt care, i was in the middle of one crossing pushing my pram and some guy kept driving at me, i had to step back out of the way or it would have been very bad news for me and my baby, its not like hecouldn'tt see me, he was just not paying attention, i was more shocked that he had a child in his own car so he should have known better

no, some drivers are just ignorant. i stop for all pedestrians (if i'm going slow enough to - i live in the country, no cross walks), even if they aren't in a crosswalk. and growing up in a city, i've found that most drivers will stop if you put up your arm and make like you are going to walk across the street. Medical practice has come a long way, my body will bounce back, but their check book won't.

It's just another annoying thing in our miserable and pointless existence. . . .
I saw an elderly lady struggle to reach the other side while a car impatiently blasted the horn for her to get out of the way - on a pedestrian crossing.

I see the same thing everyday and to me its just a lack of understanding the rules of the road and people don't care.

No they dont. I used to hate that when I was on campus. So we made them stop by walking in front of them.
