Ok we got a lift home sat night and the taxi driver didnt have his seat belt on and when i commented he told me it was the law that he didnt have to because of risk of passengers pulling it round his neck???? was this a load of wibble wobble????

A hackney carriage driver is exempt from seat belt laws whilst carrying passengers and whilst plying for hire within the area in which the cab is licensed.
A private hire car driver is only exempt whilst carrying passengers

Depends on the state in which you live..In the city i live, taxi drivers are required to wear a hat while driving..if not i get to pull them over and give a ticket. |

Well I live in NH where seatbelt use for anyone under 18 is not illegal, so depending on where you live it was a little wishy washy story! |

the seat belt law applies to all drivers and there are no exceptions ---------- ask the highway patrol guys or your local PD. |

is exempt from seat-belt requirements |

All drivers, professional and otherwise, should wear seat belts. In many states, it is the law, and to get caught not doing so will cost you. In Washington state, the fine for not wearing a seat belt is 101 dollars! In other states, it is even more. |
