Do teenagers really need to get a driver's license when they turn 16?

i'm 16 (17 in 6 days) and i dont think that kids my age, no matter how mature they or anyone else thinks they are should be driving. i have my permit now and i can tell that when i'm driving i'm not always as cautious as i should be. whenever my mom gives me the keys i smirk a little bit....that says a lot.

I honestly don't think they are aware enough to drive with out a parent for the first year of their license. They should make it mandatory that they use driving only during the daylight hours and with a responsible adult for one year. I think they are not mature enough to even realize what a threat they really are to all of us who are on the road with them. sorry kids but its true.

MOST teenagers seem to not be that mature at 16. Heck some people at 20 don't even seem that mature. But the line has to be made somewhere. The bottom line is, you eventually have to give them their independence.

Honestly, I just turned 19 and do not have my license yet. I have other friends who have gotten their license through drivers training when they were 16/17.
A good driver usually comes with experience. Of course most of the time someone who has been driving 10 years will do better than someone driving less than a year. I think there should be restrictions with driving at a young age, like better city-wide curfews for drivers or something, idk, don't really have a specific example at the moment. If they wait until they are 18, that doesn't exactly mean they are more mature, who said they weren't mature at 16? We can have a bunch of inexperienced drivers at 16, or we can have a bunch of inexperienced drivers at 18.

Yes, most teens are responsible enough to drive by the time they're 16. I got my license at 16, and still haven't gotten pulled over or in a crash. However, there are some kids who shouldn't have their license, but they are the exception, not the rule. Their parents should take away their privilage to drive if they are immature or irresponsible behind the wheel, not the government wrecking it for all the others who are able to drive safely.

I am 16 live in Canada and drive on the right hand side, yes we do need to drive, but also need to mature more, but I don't have that problem.

someone mentioned curfews in New Jersey you get your license at 17 and a year provisional driving which means one passenger can be non family member and no driving past midnight. dunno if it works i know i never followed that law ha

It's not usually the maturity of the person driving but the experience. A sixteen year old that just got his/her license has the same experience of a 35 year old that just recieved his/her license.

im 16 and i found no matter what age you put it as there still gunna have no experience behind the wheel its better to let them learn there lesson and if they are non responsable for it there licences gets pulled and they get fined, just because they are younger then you doesnt make you have the right to speak for each teen driver thank you very much.
