All government and city posted traffic signs and signals are to be treated as outlined in your DMV manual. If you go again permanent as well as temporary signs and signals, you are breaking the law and are subject to a ticket. They're there for our safety whether we like it or not. Safe driving to you!

Legally they are exactly the same. |

This is a question your Mum must have asked you when you were younger " If (insert name of mate) stuck his head in the unlit gas oven, would you do the same?". If it wasnt that same question it was one with the same meaning. Get out more, make new friends, and read the bliddy highway code!!!! |

Any light that shows red means stop. It can be frustrating waiting when no one else is around but if the police see you you'll get a heavier licence and a lighter wallet. |

If there is a light and it is red, do not just go through. A light is a light, is a light, is a light. Traffice laws do not say "oh, by the way, if there is a temporary pole set up, just ignore it when you feel like it." |

LOL NO!!
don't listen to your friend.
They are the same a a normal traffic light. |

temporary traffic lights have the same importance.
Therego, if a set of temporary lights was set up and was a strecth of road that had a corner / s bend etc, and your mate thought nothing was coming and drove on. HE WOULD BE BLAMED for jumping a red light.
Also ask him to show you where in the highway code it is, BET HE CAN'T find it. |
|

RRM

Ask if he'd go when there's a police car behind him. |

Temporary lights mean exactly the same thing as the normal
lights. Tell mate he/she can pay own tickets. |
|

golden rider

They can write you a ticket for running a temp kight just as quick as they can write one for a perminant one. |
|

Bardic

Temporary lights have exactly the same force in law as "normal" ones. Hope you mate has a good look at his licence, as he won't have it long if he drives like that! |

They are there to control traffic, not for decorations. If they were meant to be ignored why would they spend the money to put them up? |
|

WelshLad
 |
They are treated the same as all traffic lights including road works traffic lights. Your mate sounds like a total idiot - tell them I said so cause it's true |
|

kj

NO! He's totally wrong. Traffic lights are there for your safety and for the safety of others on the road. STOP on red. Go on green. |

Temporary traffic lights are the same in law as fixed lights. If you jump them and get caught, you'll get done just the same way I'm afraid. |
|

Andybike
 |
No! The same rules apply as with fixed lights, you jump them you get done. |
|

hevs

Yes, they are just as valid as normal traffic lights. Some people just disregard them if they can see the road is safe but legally I don't think that's advisable. |
|

kevskys

Traffic lights Temp or not you must stop.
Do not listen to your mate.
You will get done if caught. |
|

loulou

Don't think so - as far as I know red means red regardless of temporary lights or not |

If you are in the US and keep listening to this guy you will end up in a prison somewhere. A temporary traffic control device of any kind holds all the importance and authority that a permanent one does.
By using the term "mate" it leads me to believe you aren't in the US and if that is the case all bets are off. Different countries have different laws, they are sovern in that respect and have every right to have their own laws. I don't know what your country, province, county or what ever you call your jurisdiction says but I would bet money that the temporary is everybit as valid as a permanent fixture. |

find a new mate , mate . he is so totally wrong . |

They hold the same importance. However you know they have something that looks like sensor on them. Well, that is to detect traffic and it turns green if they sense something coming and they've been on red for ages so make sure you keep moving until the last minute |
|

The Fat Controller
|
They are just as important as you put as fixed lights with exactly the same penalties if you choose to break the law. Indeed it has been known for the penalties to be heavier because it has ben seen as more dangerous than fixed lights . So tell your mate he is talking C**P |

Sure it's true. But if an officer sees it you will be stopped and ticketed too.
Read the ordinance for red lights in your area. Does it say "All vehicles must stop when the light is red, unless of course it's a temporary light, and in that case if no traffic is coming just go."? If not, well... |
|

duster
 |
red is stop, flashing red, stop and then proceed when safe to do so. If your road laws say you can turn right on red, again, only when it is safe to do so, after stopping first |
|

dodge man
 |
in most cases you are allowed to make a right turn on red ,but that's about it if they see you run it or go strait through it,you will get a ticket for it .good luck i hope this help,s. |
