Do u need a passport to go on a cruise.?

Mr. E Man
YES

They have just changed the rules and if you are leaving the USA you must have a passport.
You can get them at the post office and they cost about $100 if you add the cost of the picture.

If you're entering a neighboring border, yes!

If it is out of the US, yes. (Canada and Mexico may be OK with accepting just a valid US license. Check with your cruise line.)
If it is within the US, no.

Same rules apply for a plane, train or any other transportation.

I was on a Mediterranean cruise and you only ended up showing your passport once, but it got stamped for each country as they arrived there.

cobra
Depends what country you come from and where you will be going. If you are an EU citizen and visit other countries in the EU then no. But you don't say where you come from so how can we answer?

If you are getting off the boat and entering a foreign country to tour the scenes then yes. If it's strictly a cruise where you won't be getting off the boat then no.

Absolutely. The ship may be registered in a foreign country, and you are considered in the country of origin even if you aren't out of the US. In some cases if you have both a driver's license and a certified copy of your birth certificate that will work. I most cases if won't and you will be denied boarding without a passport.

I just came back from a cruise this week. You don't need one now, but starting on Jan 1, 2007, you will.

For most cruises that board in the US and diembark in the US just a US government issued ID. But some require you to have a passport, like if you go to Cuba, Brazi, or Venezula. Check with the cruiseline. They have the answer.
