People 50-55 are not elderly.
But no, unless their license has expired or they have had it revoked for some reason and are now eligible to get a new one, they should not have to be retested. |

no! younger people should have to retest every year for five years, because statistics show they have the most accidents! |

50/55? They are lower risk than the entire 19-30 group.
Try 65/70 maybe |

it`s not the older people who should be tested but the younger tonight I waited for my bus in a village and the amount of young drivers going through at speed is ridiculous.Young people have more accidents and deaths than older drivers so why pick on them?? |

That is not elderly. To me elderly is about 65 to 70 plus. |

Hey watch it now!!! I'm 49 and I guarantee you I'm a much safer (and probably better) driver then you. |

People who are 50-55 are not elders, fool. |

"Elder" people? Lol
I think 50-55 is a little young to be retested. But I do believe that around age 65 and from every year beyond that mature drivers should be retested again. It might hurt someones pride along the line, but it would be safer for everyone in the long run. |

No I do not think drivers within the 50-55 age range should be retested for driving. I have been in the insurance industry for over 25 years and in my experience with claims reported that most 50-65 year old drivers are the least accident prone. Those in that age range are generally the most conscientious of their surroundings on the roadways and are generally in less of a hurry to get to their destination. They are also more aware that maintaining a clean driving record and insurance claim free record benefits them in insurance premium savings. |

In Arizona, starting at age 60 they give what is called a hand eye coordination test. There are several holes with red light in the bottom of it. when the red light comes on you have a certain time limit to place the peg in the hole.
This is administered with an eye test to renew your drivers license.
Think it should be done everywhere. |

LOL. I am 48. I'd flunk. I never took a car driving test at all. I can make the car go forward just fine, but I'm no good at backing it up or parking it. The DMV sent me a car drivers' license by mistake. LOL. |

actually they should test the 20-30 age group. they're the 1's that zip in/out of heavy traffic, zip around at anywhere between 10-20 mph over the speed limit 9x's out of 10, they're notorious for trying to do up to 10 things at once while trying to maintain a line at interstate speed, they're notorious for attempting to imitate nascar on the interstate with the 1 foot riding tailgate.....think they call it drafting in nascar. and some of these fools do the same with the semi's....doesnt matter to them that the driver has no clue they are back there, and they wind up having trailer a'la mode' if the driver has to lock down the brakes in a hurry.
20-30'ish is notorious for being the ones that walk into the local bike shop, and for their first bike, they pick either a hayabussa, or a zx-14, or another 1 of the high powered superbikes.....all with zero training, zero experience, and then when the bike kills them within 3 weeks, there's calls for manditory helmet laws......not realizing that if u slide into a guardrail at 120+ no helmet will save u......nor will it protect against a face plant from hitting the back of a semi at high speed. these squids are also notorious for riding the 2 mile wheelie in heavy traffic on the interstate.
based on what i've seen out there, those between 40-60 are actually the SAFEST group around.
if 18-30 is the 'safest', then why is it that no trucking company will hire those under 25? could it be that if u screw up in a 18 wheeler u'll crush a car like a grape, and the company's insurance will drop them from hiring a immature driver? naaaaaaah.
think u better take a long and very hard look at the way U drive before u start dissing those in the 50 and up range. they got that way from driving with a brain in their head. |

I think 65 - 70
I am 50 and have never been involved in a multiple vehicle accident or been ticketed in over 30 years! (Knock on wood!)
I do not believe anyone that is 50 - 55 thinks as themselves as elder either.. |

damn skippy i think they should. altho i think more like 65+ years old. but it'll never pass. if a politician suggested we do this, he/she would have zero support because it's just too controversial. |

Being a 52 year old truck driver I disagree with your age group for retesting. I do believe that 70 and older should be retested every couple of years as reflexes get slower with age. I also think that the drivers test should be harder for young people to get a drivers permit. The bad drivers I notice are the younger ones talking on their cell phones or trying to put make-up on while driving. |

The hilarity.
Sigh...I'm in the majority when I say 50-55 is not elderly. Give it 10 more years and we'll talk.
My ex-boss (Marketing Director) was a 62 years old blond bombshell. I swear! Total Sharon Stone. And totally not ready for a retest. |

I would make it a requirement beganing on or around their 65th birthday. 55 is to young. But yes, it would be a good idea to do that, but it would have to be done respectably. |

 |
ABSOLUTELY!!! Although i would raise the age to about 65. I used to live in Florida, and i can't tell you how many accidents i almost got into because an old person was behind the wheel. They absolutely must be evaluated when they reach a certain age |

how the heck do you consider 50 to 55 elderly ?? |
|

Becca
 |
Yes I do about 55-60 and then a re-test every 2-3 years after that! There are alot of elder peopole who should not have a drivers license, and there are some who drive just fine. But yes I do agree!! |
|

LNP
 |
Probably at age 65. |

Um I think 60. But they should be tested for alzheimers first. |
|

?

yep because there just as crazy as drunk drivers.

I definitely think so. It would be a great thing to do since it would looking out for the safety of everybody, young drivers to old drivers, to make sure that they can still drive safely and not endanger the lives of themselves or others. |

Hell yes!!! They can save lives by making that a law. |
