Do you come to complete stops at stop signs or do you roll through them?

does having an auto tranny make the tendency of rolling through them worse?

Now that I'm older, I actually stop.

But my Civic (5 speed), almost makes it a requirement because it won't go back into first if the car is rolling.

But it doesn't matter because even with my Audi (auto), I still come to a full stop now.

good Luck....

Always stop. Makes the person behind ya, if they are tailgating mad.

I drive a school bus, and I always come to a complete stop, count to three and then proceed.I used to roll through but when I started driving a school bus, I learned the right way and have done it ever since.

No, having crappy driving habits makes the tendency to roll throught them worse.

Actually having a manual tranny made the tendency worse for me. But i still come to a complete stop. A bunch of my friends have gotten tickets for rolling through the sign, so i learned from their mistakes.

Modern brakes can easily overcome the tendency for an automatic to roll forward. That would be the 'big wide' pedal if your wondering.
At any stop sign the accepted procedure is to come to a COMPLETE STOP for a minimum of 3 seconds.

I always come to a complete stop so I will be in the habit of doing it without even thinking about it.

I aways come to a complete stop. We are talking quantum physics, right?

Learn to double clutch. Depress clutch, shift from 2nd to Neutral, release clutch, goose the engine, depress clutch and shift into 1st. I consider keeping in the correct gear for your speed to be a safety issue.

Unless I'm being stared down by a cop or waiting for the crossing traffic, I roll ... I don't know a single person that comes to a COMPLETE stop ... just enough to look both ways and continue through the intersection

depends on if anyone is around

i agree that automatics are easy to roll thru with, but in first gear, same effect can be experienced.

from experience driving 35556 (on my niva) KILOMETRES, about 20000 miles in russia, i could sa there is NO absolutely no safety issue about complete stops or not. there are NO "stop" signs in russia. EXCEPT at perhaps a railroad or certain other places. these red octagons mean to stop behind it in the event you need to stop. we always drive thru them unless a train is coming. (you can see the same in mexican streets- if the light is green, you go thru the red stop sign.) russian driving is insane compared to usa. if you pass on a hill with another car coming, they move aside, no screaming, cursing and horn honking. you are expected to do the same. in america, often i drive without looking at the highway, just sightseeing as i drive. here, in russia, you must pay attention to the road.
but as far as a complete stop and safety, i guess if there is no "thin blue line" between stop and no stop, in america it could be a safety issue. roll thru, well, 5 mph roll thru, why not ten, then 20 mph roll thru soon: 60 mph ROLLOVER!

Stop means stop. And in the 30 some years that I have had a driver's license, I have never been pulled over for running a stop sign or light violation.

na, why bother, its my world and i like doing things my way just like everybody else. who cares i'm generally to busy talking, texting .stops are for losers. as long as i dont hit anybody, ha that would be funny , id sue them. i love me some me

It depends. If there is no one around then not always.

A complete stop is all 4 tires stopped. It is not a complete stop if only 2 tires are stopped. You can get a ticket.

For the driving I do - almost always. It's a must because I don't always have a clear view so a rolling stop would be dangerous. However, I see plenty of people do it and I think they are stupid.

The drivers where I live are horrible - been write ups in the paper about it - see lots of drivers pulled over - happens at least a few times a month in certain areas - lots of accidents. I hate driving around here because people are so short sighted and stupid.

There is something to be said about education and consideration.
