at least you should leave the length of a car between you. If you are travelling at high speeds, the space must be increased. If the car in front of you brakes suddenly, you have a good chance to stop in time without bumbing into it. Remember it takes a split second for your brain to react and a split second for your feet to press the break pedal. At high speeds this will convert to a number of yards (metres) so if you are too close you are bound to bump or crash into the car in front. A car travelling at 90 miles per hour is doing 44 yards in 1 second. (equivalent of 140 Km per hour or 39 metres per second) |

i was taught the 2 second rule if the car in front of you passes a telephone pole you should pass it 2 seconds later-- any sooner than that, you are driving too close. |

After driving commercially for close to 40yrs. I have never followed closely because you never get there any faster and you never have an escape route should trouble arise. |

No, when you're in a city, mark the place where the car in front of you was, and count. It should be about 2-3 seconds. if you're driving on the highway it should be 4-5 sec., if it's in poor visibility then I recommend 6-7sec. |

I do. Its cause im impatient. Sometimes its because I dont want people to cut me off on the highway, so I only leave a little space between me and the person in front of me. |
