I was driving in Pasadena, CA's City Hall and they had a photo enforced intersection. It was red. I made a complete stop and began my right turn, but mid intersection, I realized they had a NO TURN ON RED sign. I completed my turn, but saw no flash. Has anyone gotten ticketed for making a right turn on one of these intersections?
If so, how long does it take and do you get a point on your driver's license?

I am not sure about Pasadena laws, but I can tell you how it works in Houston, Texas. I've gotten a ticket for making a turn on red (when I was not allowed to). The ticket took about 10 days to come and it does not go on your driving record, if you pay by the deadline. |

as far as i know, a lot of cameras at intersections (i know this for a fact in jersey) are just for supervising purposes. they link up to television sets back at city hall that dispatchers sometimes watch. this way, if the dispatcher saw you make the illegal turn, then they could radio to a cop nearby who would then pull you over. so if you didn't get pulled over then, you should be safe.
now if those cameras are set to sense that you made your turn on red and you get a ticket in the mail, they usually don't have points attached with them. this is because the cameras didn't snap your driver's license - anyone could have been driving the car. cameras that sense a speeding car don't get you points on your license, they just send a ticket to your house. there's really nothing to worry about, if anything, just a fine, and i highly doubt that too. sorry this was so lengthy :) |
