They do pysse me off but I don`t hate them. And at the earliest and safest opportunity I merely get out of their way. Simplest solution to the problem is to rid yourself of it not screw around with the individual and make it worse. People can die as a result of that kind of mindset and besides; it is not the function of any driver to act as a vigilante. You can be charged by the Police if they catch you doing it. Nah-hate is too strong an emotion to have while driving.

I ignore them. However if they've 'gated me for a while, my emergency flashers go on - especially effective at night - and they'll back off or change lanes.

Lots of people gave good answers to this one. Here is one of the most ignored statistics out there. Get ready for it. 70% of all deaths on the road in a commercial vehicle accident. happen at the rear bumper, or the D.O.T. bar as it is commonly referred. Tailgating in any vehicle is dangerous. The commercial vehicles that do it here in the states, these drivers are called cowboys. They do not last very long in the business. Either they cause an accident(I do hate the word accident. There is no such thing.) or get cited or just wreck their own vehicle by having to swerve to fast. I am happy to say that I helped rid my company of one of these drivers when I was on the review board for the 2 "accidents" that he caused. You never want to face a review board if you are at fault. Professional drivers are harder on themselves in these situations than any judge. It gets really obvious, really fast once the photos and the police reports come out. Fortunately no one died. I have been on the receiving end of one of these . I had a major brake failure that led to my only wreck in 20 yrs of driving. I still got grilled bad...

i hate it so much, ive modded my car up so that i have a big, strong metal bar attached to the chassis of my car and goes out around the outside of the bumper, so if i get hit, no damage done to me, but thier bumper in bits all over the road, it is legal so dw, my bfs got it on his car too, and its noted on my cars registration documents

Yes, I hate it when people tailgate me. Sometimes I will slow down even more to piss them off. I was driving in the left lane on the interstate one night and looked in my mirror and there was some idiot riding my bumper so close I couldn't see their headlights. I was already driving 10 miles over the speed and running with the flow of traffic. I got so aggravated I decided to turn on my emergency flashers and the moron backed off real quick

I totally agree with you on this, I absolutely hate it when people tailgate me.

If they get on my nerves too much I will pull over or change lanes and let the idiot behind overtake me. I cant relax knowing there is a dangerous tailgator behind me, it stresses me out.

Inconsiderate - Yeah - I cannot stand them. It happens all of the time on a state road that I drive on. The police officer in one of the towns is an idiot because she doesn't seem to notice. How can you not?
No excuse for this behavior. I think the police should crack down on it.

Yes, but there's really nothing I can do about it and I don't drive differently because of this. I just pretend they are not there and they pass me when they have a chance. They don't bother me anymore. I'm pretty cool with them behind me that close, unless they hit me.

Yep. Wish I still had the old Landrover with the big military tow-hitch on the back - wouldn't have kept trucks off but otherwise a little gentle application of the handbrake worked wonders . . .

Oh yes they really are Muppet's . I slow down and keep switching on my rear fog lights and then accelerate and repeat again and again . that really pisses them off .

Sure do and so do the police - they pulled a small truck tailgating me on the motorway. Could have been for something else, but, I think that it what it was.
Could not have gone faster as there was traffic in front.
Some drivers seem to do it to attempt to bully you out of the way. I slow down a little to wind them up. They deserve it.

If that happens, turn in to the next lane then switch again. I hate when people tailgate on purpose so the person in the next lane won't turn into your lane even if the road is merging.

I know they like to "challange" people, but come on, when is a Saxo ever going to be a challange for a DB9 ?

They make me laugh sometimes, in thier big-bore novas and saxos.

I have 365mm vented discs with 4-pot calipers on my car. The wheels are shod with 275x35 R19's. Believe me, you don't want to be behind me if i ever decide to stand on the brake

What I do is mod my car so that, on the push of a button, oil slicks come out the back along with hundreds of tacks. Then the rest is history. But hey, thats just me.

depending on road and weather i do 5-10mph over speed limit. if you are tailgating me when im doing over the speed limit or im doing the speed limit i slow down to about 10 mph under the speed limit and when the passing zone comes up i speed back up so they cant pass. my two trucks have steel bumpers on them. i made them myself and they are way stronger than any bumper you can buy. i also have a trailer hitch sticking out so that will put a hurting on your front end.

the best thing to do if someone is tailgating you on a road with no passing zones and traffic is to just drive really really slowly, because you want to protect them O:) because if you are both driving more slowly then any accident you get in wont be as serious.

It has nothing to do with the fact that they will get even more pissed off.

if your on a highway you want to take part in some Tactical Driving, it works best in 2 lane highways. you drive the same speed as the car next to you until you see another car. then you floor it until you get up to that car and the process repeats itself. also it is fun to slow down so it looks like the guy in the other lane will pass you and then speed up after they change lanes to pass you. so that they can't pass you and then make it look like you are gonna pass the car you have been even with and then when they change lanes you slow down again.

It has been the source of many hours of enjoyment for me

I just keep slamming on my brakes if I get tailgated, if they try to overtake me I speed up, I love to f*ck them off, I have even had a few loose control of their cars, I should put a few of those c*nts off from tailgating in the future.

I just slow down if someone is really tailing me. Being in a sports car like myself they wouldn't know if I hit the brake because all I have to do is downshift. Honestly though I would just sometimes ignore it majority of the time. Most of the people I see do it is the idiots with the American pick-up trucks. Nothing against people with F-150's, etc..Because I drive one for myself for going out to rural country. But a lot of people that drive them drive like freaking yeeeeeehhhhhaaaaaaaaaassss...!
