It depends entirely on the parking regulations in that area. Here (Chicago), there used to be meters that you didn't have to pay on Saturday or Sunday. Now you have to pay just about any of them on Saturdays, and there are some (especially by Wrigley Field) that even must be paid on Sunday. But if you got a ticket because your money didn't register, and not because it ran out, then you should have grounds to contest it on that issue.

The exceptions are posted on the meter itself (on a sticker) and/or on a street sign. Sometimes, a street sign takes precedence over what the meter says - this happened to me once. You should have posted a note on the meter that says something like "Meter broken" or you should have moved the car somewhere else.

Your best bet is to take pictures of the meter, take it to the judge or hearing officer, and explain what happened. Your ticket might be thrown out or the fine might be reduced.

i have never NOT had to feed a meter. besides, if it malfunctiond you should have moved your car then gone and alerted someone to the problem as soon as you could. if you got a ticket then odds are yes, you do have to feed that meter on whatever day you were there.

Obviously, you needed to feed the meter. As for the meter, you paid your money and then you parked. Tell it to the judge, if you plead not guilty, then the judge may postpone your case until the police officer can be summoned to appear, so you may have to go back again. Some people ignore the tickets, but in a lot of cities the police are cracking down on them and getting ready to make things hard on them.

The effective hours are posted on the meter. If it's enforced on Saturday you'll get a ticket. If the meter actually did fail, the city should have a record of the repair. Get a copy of that and take it to court to get it dismissed.

If you take time to fight it you will win when i see someones meter has run out i gennerally put a quarter in it cause i know all about parking tickets they a pain in the @ss.....Good luck In Court

I'm not sure where you live, in CT you only have to put money in the meters during the week. Up here people who don't know still put money in the meters on the weekend even though you don't have to. I would check your local laws and fight it anyway. I doubt the cop who wrote the ticket is going to show up in court for a couple dollar fine. Good lluck!

You have to pay the meter, even on Saturdays unless it says something like: "Free Parking On Weekends". The machine malfunctioning is not your fault but if the meter doesn't work and you can't pay to park there you have to move to a different spot where the meter is working. Sorry about the ticket. :-(

Every meter I have ever seen has a schedule on them. They will have the rate/time and also something to the fact about weekend rates.

next time you have to park near a meter.... just run into it and then say it was like that when you got there and you didn't see it when you parked there.
