Because the majority of those killed on our highways are due to negligence and irresponsibility. Those that died in Vietnam volunteered to serve their country and sacraficed their lives believing in something that a lot of people take for granted... FREEDOM!!

Where would you put such a memorial?

In Greece, the victim's family installs a small religious shrine to commemorate a highway death. We see flowers and the like in the US, but a national shrine would be unwieldly.

I suggest that the traffic authority should put a mark in the highways where exactly people have accident with a red "x" and yellow "x" mark to where they had their accident and died.

One red "X" for every death and one yellow "x" for those who survived.

In that way people would be aware of what is going on in their Highway.

now days people have taken the attitdue that they just simply do nor care which is the reason why they do not pay attention. for all anyone knows they might not knoe anything at all about the vietnam war much else even ask what the whole thing was about. its either that or im just getting old but i do remember the days of watching the casualty reports on the news at 5pm every day

Maybe they should send repeat offenders off to war, rather than jail or drivers ed, then if they die, they get there name on the wall, and you don't have to spend money on a separate wall. It's win win. No new wall needed, and people who would have wound up on the new wall you proposed, get there name on there! happy days all round

it don't make a dint in the population there are more cars on the road since the Vietnam war, and getting larger everyday, I know its bad but when your # comes up it don't matter where you are , it just comes, death does not discriminate it just does it thing everyday

The leading cause of death and/or disfigurement for children are motor vehicle accidents.

The leading cause of death for healthy adults is motor vehicle accidents. Numbers have gone down with better safety equipment and better roadways BUT it is still the riskiest thing that most people will ever do in their life.

And the reason there is no wall? Money silly!

How do you get road improvements, traffic lights, etc? When the publicity from accidents and the cost of lost lives makes the improvement cost beneficial- lesser expense(or jeopardizes that politician's position!).

Do your part- drive safely!

Let's build a wall to hold the DUI's and speeders. That would cut highway fatalities by greater than 50%.

People just accept highway fatalities as a way of life. If they'd wake up and start demanding stiffer penalties and prison time, we might be able to do something.
