Yes they would. They usually dont bother with it when your only over a few miles an hour.I dont know where you live but I havent seen a highway with a 55 mph speed limit in a long time.Just go the speed limit. |

I probably don't live near you but the rule of thumb is anything under 7 over, sometimes under 10 isn't worth writing a ticket for, you might find a few bored cops that will do it, but likely unless your doing something stupid they could care less.
Ive gone past cops doing 10 over and they didn't care, for sure 5 and under, it's likely not a problem, they have to take 20 mins of paperwork for 5 miles.... |

If not he should, just you. I remember a drive I did in Florida where I was running the roads. I stopped for an hour nap, and still averaged 85 mph for the trip. The general rule of thumb for the highway patrol is 10mph over the limit, so you can do 9 over without a ticket. In California, 5 in some parts. They don't have exact quotas, but if they do not write enough tickets in their shift, they will not be promoted. If you were not going 63-65 how do you know? |

The speed limit is the law. 1mph over is enough to get a ticket. A lot of it depends on your attitude and how much of a @sshole the cop is. Most people get away with speeding because the cops are to lazy to do there job. |

The cop will see the whole picture. Your lowered car with the blacked out windows, the slogan stickers on the bumper, the junk hanging from the mirror, your slouch in the driving seat, the volume of your hip-hop music, weaving in and out of traffic, following too close, not keeping centered in your lane, driving with one hand, talking on the cell phone. On the other hand, if you are very "normal" and keeping up with the flow of traffic and not looking any different from anyone else, you are probably safe. |

Some will pull you over for this. Mostly young cops (rookies)
But for the most part, 5 mph, cops let that slide. |

i think it really depends on the cop. some will pull you over for it and others won't. just go the speed limit that way you know for sure you won't get pulled over. :o) |

I'd suggest you stick to the speed limit, and then you won't have to worry about it.
But to answer, yes, they can. In reality they can pull you over for exceeding the speed limit (which is the fastest you can safely go on that road in ideal conditions, not a suggestion) by even 1 mile over. Chances are they won't, but why risk it?
Also remember, when conditions are not ideal, then the speed limit will drop to whatever is safe for conditions. The sign may say "65" but if the fog is thick, 15 may be a lot safer. |

usually when on the high way people drive to keep up with the on going traffic, when on small streets they wont usually bother you for a few miles over the limit,we all go over it at sometime, thing is they cant catch everyone doing it,but they wont usually bother you for anything under 5 miles over, anything over 5 miles they will, good luck. |

They will not, USUALLY pull you over for that small amount over the limit, but you should be aware that they COULD issue a citation for even one mile an hour over the limit.
One of the reasons they don't is to allow for errors in the officer's estimation of your speed, or in the accuracy of the radar equipment used to clock your speed. There is point where the officer will have NO doubt you are exceeding the limit, such as if you were doing 80 in a 65 zone. He may cite you for doing 75, in case you or your attorney might question his judgement about the 80mph figure. |
|

what u talkin' bout?
|
That isn't much over. They probably look at all of the traffic at that time. Chances are you are not the only one. |

No, you wouldn't be pulled over by a cop for going over 3-5mph of speed limit as long as you go with the flow of traffic. A cop would pull you over for driving 55 on the passing lane, you slow down the traffic. 60 to 80 is normal for driving on freeways. |

The only time I have ever heard of police pulling people over for 5mph or less over the speed limit is when they are having a dispute with the local government and they adopt a "zero tolerance" policy. There are some small towns in Florida (such as Waldo) where they are known for ticketing anything over the limit but that is done as a form of income rather than genuine law enforcement. Interstates and other high speed highways usually have people going 10 or more mph over the limit and most cops, if they write a ticket, want to make it worth their while and be sure the charge will stick in court so it's not unusual for them to start writing at 11 mph and up over the limit. I used to drive for a living and the rule of thumb which has always worked for me is "Keep it at five and they'll let you drive." |

if you are ever visiting chilicothie, ohio dont even go 1 mph over, because they want to pull money from fines (from people out of the county) in even if there is a local going 10 over right next to you |

This varies from place to place. When I lived in Connecticut, I saw a story on the news about a police officer not pulling over someone going 12 MPH faster than the limit on I-91 and then finding (and pulling over) someone going 16 MPH faster than the limit within a minute or so, but I also knew someone who got a ticket on Route 8 going less 10 MPH faster than the limit. Generally speaking, you will not get a ticket at 1-5 MPH faster than the limit and will get a ticket at 15 MPH faster than the limit. There is no guarantee tough (at either end) and the exact cutoff speed varies from place to place, by the time of day, the weater, the mood of the officer, etc. |

Most police officers will not pull you over for driving a few miles over the speed limit. It's too much paperwork involved. If they do pull you over, they are probably questioning something else, like alcohol, or whatever. |

It's unofficially suggested that the speed limit +10% +3mph is the point at which you get into trouble.
This equates to doing 80 on a 70mph motorway.
No speed limits apply to white van drivers - they are exempt from all 'Rules of the Road'.

It all depends on the cop. Typically they let you getaway with 5mph over. Highway police mainly look for unsafe or erratic lane changes |

you obviously don't live in California. The speed limit out here is 65, and you'll see people do in 70-90, at any given time. To answer you question, a cop will pull you over for doin 3 miles over the speed limit only if he's bored. Otherwise they have much better things to do. |

Hey Young Buck.An officer(cop)Needs no reason to pull you to the curb.Zero.Remember that. Some think they are god ,king and answer to no one see the news much? You take care. |

Short answer: He could, and it would be totally OK.
Longer Answer: I've been driving quite a while. I regularly drive 6-8 mph over the limit, past cops, and I don't get ticketed. I do what is technically 20mph over on the freeway without issues. BUT I have heard of people being pulled over for similar offenses. BUT usually they don't waste their time, mainly because you aren't harming anyone, and the guy passing you at 20mph over is.
IMO, up to 8mph over the speed limit in a 40 is no issue, increasing to 20mph over on a 65.
In my defense, I've attended racing school, and know how to control a car whether its going straight or sideways. I also drive a car with great suspension.
TO SUM IT UP - go moderately over the speed limit, bit I wouldn't push more than 8 over. I'd also take a racing or high performance driving course to learn how to control an oversteering or understeering car because the DMV don't know nothin. |

a police officer can pull you over for just doing 1 mile over the speed limit. in your case he or she p=ob wont do anything cause its too much paperwork and you can fight against it in court cause every speed dometer is different each vehicle thats why most people get away with it. if you have a huge truck you could be doing 65 but in your speed gage it will say 55 |
