Do you think if everyone drove the speed limit (not higher or lower) would the roads be safer?

it seems like a lot of problems occur when people come down the on ramp unto the freeway going way slower than what the flow of traffic of the freeway already is. this causes people to have to slam on their brakes and people suddenly switch lanes which is dangerous

and also on the normal roads then people go way slower than the speed limit ( going 35 in a 45) people get pissed and pass them even though its a double yellow and they cant see far ahead to see if any other cars are coming.

i think the roads would be safer, do you?

yes if every one whent the same speed it would be safter but accidents still would happen because every one makes mistakes.

If they are dumb enough to pass on a double yellow your speed will not make them a smart driver.

People should be driving with the flow of traffic, not what they think it should be. People that try to enforce the speed limit by driving 15mph slower than the flow of traffic (let's say in the fast lane) are just as dangerous as people that cut in and out of lanes and around other cars going 15mph faster than traffic.

It doesn't matter what the speed limit is or isn't, if you can't keep with the speed of traffic, you're a danger.

Theoretically. However unexpected things always seem to happen.

I think on a whole they'd be safer. Traffic would be more consistent. It would be easier to establish dangerous drivers, because everyone would be going the same speed.

So, yeah..in theory.. I think they would be safer. That's always my opinion. The speed limit is there for a reason. People driving below it impede traffic and back it up, often causing people to exceed the speed limit to get away from them. People driving too fast have slower reaction times than those who drive at a slower speed.

No. Forcing people to go faster than they feel comfortable with asking for accidents to happen. That's why there are no minimum speed limits.

the speed limit is there to let drivers now that is the maximun speed they can go the speed limit is not always the safe speed for example in a built up area it is 30mph but if you now there are children that play on them streets regular would it still be safe to drive the speed limit NO just use common sense

the people who over take someone just because they are maybe goin 5 or 10mph slower than the speed limit are just asking for trouble and they are usually the ones that will cause or be involved with an accident just have patients

that's why you call cars coming of a ramp a merge because they are merging in, and if people were going at a speed that was safe they would not have to go over the lines

....

The 'speed limit' is not the speed at which it is the safest. It is the speed one is not supposed to faster than.

If everyone drove the speed limit all the time there would be MORE accidents! Oftentimes the speed limit is too fast for conditions.

I am all for safety but if everyone drove the speed limit and you need to think about this............there would be "more" accidents because everyone would be all bunched up together......
