No, seat-belts should not be enforced by law for adults. The adult driver should make the choice and as you say, "drive at your own risk". People will yell that 'seat belts save lives' and sometimes they do, but once in a while they don't - trapping someone in a car. Reducing the speed limit to 5 mph would save lives too, so it seems to me a hollow argument.
In some states, if your car is old enough, you don't have to wear a seat belt (1964 in MT).
Drivers should be allowed to make the decision without fear of reprisal from the police. The police should be attempting to enforce actual public traffic safety and fighting crime - not driving around looking for someone without a seat belt on! |

While I think seat belts are a great safety device, I object to anything that gives the police another reason to stop a law-abiding citizen. Go stop a crime or something, for goodness sake, and leave me alone. |

We have enough government in our lives as it is. I really believe it should be a personal choice. |

As long as you are insured for medical expenses, it should be your choice, but the Govt. has no way of knowing who is going to end up on a respirator at Govt expense, so we ALL suffer further control of our lives.
The bottom line here with seatbelt laws is NOT your safety, it's $$$$ They don't give a DANG about your safety. |

We don't drive around looking for someone not wearing there seat belt all day...... Well here In AL we only give a seat belt ticket when we stop you for speeding,DUI, etc...... I have never stopped a driver just B/C i saw them not wearing a seat belt and never would I think it should be the left up to the driver and whom ever is rideing with them, But The SEAT BELT Does save lives I have seen why to many accidents where seat belts was not used and yes bodies and braines and other things would be all over the road not a good thing to see day after day everyday It is always good to use them I have only seen 16 out of about 12000 auto accidents where seat belts didn't save a drivers life due to car running into water, car catching on fire that is only 0.1% 99.9% of the time It will SAVE your life. Please Wear the seat belt if not for you for us that have to help work the accident. |

I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE UP MY OWN MIND ABOUT WEARING SEAT BELTS I BELIEVE THE SEAT BELT LAW WAS MADE TO PROTECT INSURANCE COMPANYS. NOT TO PROTECT ME . |

It shouldn't be enforced by law. Having too much government takes freedom away. And I think people are smart enough to buckle up if they want to live. |

They should ENFORCE Seat Belts ON SCHOOL Buses ! That's like riding a bike without a brain bucket - It's kinda hard 2 enforce it with the body SPLATTERED all over the road. Only enforce it by DOUBLING the non-seat belt wearers insurance !Maybe then WE won't have 2 look @ body parts when WE drive by the WRECK !!! |

We, as adults, should be allowed to make choices on what, if any, risks are acceptable to us. We do not need "big brother" or the "nanny state" taking away our right to make our own choices!!! |

I always buckle up whenever I'm in a vehicle. I make sure all other people are buckled up, too. You could easily be hurt by other passengers who aren't buckled up.
Don't do it for yourself...do it for the ones who love you and may depend on you to provide for them. If something happens to you, what would your family/loved ones do?
You have a better chance of survival if you wear the seatbelt.
If everyone buckled up and operated a vehicle safely, there wouldn't be a need for this law.
There has been alot of debate over this for entirely too long. At this point, who cares? People are going to do what they're going to do.
Try wearing the seatbelt. Before you know it, you won't even know you're wearing it. It all becomes "second nature". |

They should be enforced by law. If it isn't that gives people the right to decide for a child and someone stupid enough to not wear one themself cannot be left to decide for children.
Also, if you are killed in an accident because of this poor decision what about the other driver that has to live with the horror for the rest of their life? |

It's because some people don't have the intelligence of a brick so therefore people with some intelligence make that decision for you and try and keep your *** alive for a while! |

Should be law because so long as I pay taxes to provide you with ambulance service I will insist you wear seat belts.
If you agree to eliminate ambulance service, I will agree to eliminate the requirement to wear seat belts. |

i really think that it is a good idea to wear and enforce the use of the seatbelt. i think if it was drive at your own risk, there would be an awful lot more deaths in the country. |

They should be inforced. |

I think they should be enforced because they do save lives much more often than they kill. I have never heard of an incident where someone was killed by a seat belt in an accident. |
