No, smart people who can handle driving shouldn't be punished for the few retards who just can't understand the concept of driving.
It's so easy, it's just that most people never learned about driving, and are too stupid to figure out how to do it safely.
"America is a nation built on laws, poorly written and randomly enforced" The age limit is just a random number someone threw together a means to establish some way of saying "hey we're trying to protect driviers from bad drivers"
If they upped the driving tests then we wouldn't have a roblem with crappy drivers. |

Yes. I think 18 makes more sense than 16- it does not make much sense to trust a dangerous vehicle to a minor who cannot be held legally liable for their actions. |

No each state should have the ability to coordinate the driving age. The young people are not at fault, if that is what you are looking for.
It is the elderly and the cell phone soccer moms that make most of the road trouble. |

Yes. I think it's dumb that you can't drink until you are 21, aren't an adult (meaning you can't do alot of things) until 18 but you can get behind the wheel of a car weighing 2,000 pounds and up at just 15 or 16.
It seems a little crazy don't you think? I think 16 year olds still don't have a complete understanding of consequences and such. They do things, more often than others, without thinking about it, without realizing what could happen to them and others. It is just their mentality, here and now.
Not to say that only teenagers think that way, however most teenagers do think that way. I can still remember incredibly stupid things that I did as a teen, and driving a car. Now, I can't even imagine how I thought that was a good idea. And I was a pretty mellow teen. When I think of what my friends did...I'm scared to ever have kids - knowing they will someday be teens.
So I don't think that teens are really bad drivers, just that they don't fully understand the results of their actions yet and how serious driving a vehicle is. Especially when they have friends around, they are listening to music, talking, trying to act cool, etc. and not paying as much attention to the road as they should.
I think everyone should have to retake the driving part, as well as the written part, of the driving test, at least once every 4 years. There are so many people on the road, I wonder how they ever got their license. And usually they aren't teenagers, they are adults! So that's a whole different thing, but thought I should mention it anyhow.
Ok, come on, all the people who don't want the driving age increased...answer this:
Did you shop for your own insurance? Find out what the coverage is and what it all means? Or did your parents do it for you?
If you did, good for you. You are more responsible than most your age and have actually put some thought into what being a responsible driver is. (Not that this is the only thing to it, but it does show that you are serious about wanting to drive and taking on the responsibilities that go with it)
But if your parents did it for you and If you can't even take care of this little bit of responsibility, why do you think you should be behind the wheel of a car? That just goes to show you want all the fun of driving a car, but none of the responsibility.
It is about the responsiblity, and it should be. It's not about experience. Of course you will get more experience if you start at 16 than 18. But why would that matter? Either way, whether the driving age is 16 or 18, you will still have brand new drivers on the road, with no experience. And of course, those 80 year olds that everyone is complaining about have 64 years of experience, so experience is NOT everything.
Responsibility and mentality, however, are. Because a responsible person would understand their limitations, lack of experience, and the consequences of their actions. Sorry, but teenagers rarely do this! They may understand that for every action there is a reaction, but not to the full extent. For example, a teenager knows that if you kill someone you will go to jail. A more responsible adult knows that if you kill someone you will go to jail, you will lose your house, you will lose your job, your car, etc. You might even be sued by the family, you can lose everything you have and maybe even more. They know that mom and dad can't pull them out of this, but someone who has never had to have any kind of responsibilty thinks mom and dad will, because mom and dad do everything.
18 may not be much better, but it's certainly closer. It's a fact that we go through different mental stages, or whatever you want to call them, at different points in our lives. Not everyone will go through those different stages at the same time, but most will. |

actually i think it should be the other way around. ppl over 60 should be tested to see if there still capable of operating a vehicle |

yes i think the driving age should be increased to at least 18 or 19 because kids should be able to live there young life without drunk driving because to many youngsters die from that.......... |

Driving age should not be increased but as TN has a graduated license is good idea. If you quit school you loose license until age 18. I do believe drivers ed should be taken. |

NO.
However there should be a maximum age.
I'm fed up of hearing about old people getting the pedals mixed up and driving into a house, or pensioners driving the wrong way up a motorway.
I'm also sick of driving behind old people that seem to think 20mph is like driving at the speed of light.
Do people lose their sense of speed when they get old? |

I think that the driving age should stay the same.
I'm only about 15 years old, but I think that you shouldn't skyrocket the driving age that much. I think that stricter laws should be made regarding on that topic.
People often say 16 year old drivers are immature and don't make the best decisions. I'm not disagreeing with that, but I just think that at that age that is how you are. Just like a 23 year old is a little more mature, but still doesn't mind hitting up the clubs once in a while. So people should kind off get off that factor. If teens don't learn to fend for themselves now it'll be harder in the future. They can't always depend on their parents to come through so therefore driving is a essential need to their teenage lives.
Fatality rates is another big issue in the teen driving age debate. People exaggerate the teen driving rate, but it's only 13% of the whole driving issue. I am not saying that's not serious, but you have to think is this really a huge issue or are we just making it bigger than what it really is. |

I think a lot of deaths could be avoided. i do not think 16 is old enough or mature enough by any stretch of the imagination to be driving, especially in the current climate where kids are not allowed much freedom as they grow. |

yes I do think the age needs to increase due too many accident and children dying. I think the age should be at the age of eighteen until they get out of high school. |

No...16 is perfect. There are many reasons why:
1. 16-year olds need to be many places at many different times, and are simply too old to rely on their parents/older siblings/etc. to drive them places.
2. If the driving age was increased, kids wouldn't have enough time to practice driving and gain experience before heading off to college or wherever they might go after high school
3. By age 16, most people are dating. Wouldn't it be weird to have your parents drive you to and from a date??
4. Age 16 is the age at which most places start hiring people for work. Kids can't rely on parents to drop them off and pick them up from work every day. That's inconvenient for both.
People shouldn't say the driving age should be increased because of responsibility issues. One year of driving practice can improve responsibility much more than can one year of sitting around waiting to get a license. |

Yes. The age should be 18. Why can you not vote until 18, not drink until 19, (or 21 in the US) and have control of something that can take lives at 16? I think that some kids are responsible but most aren't. There are too many killings (accidents) because of kids out joyriding with their friends, or just not having enough experience. I think that if most parents took more interest in their child learning to drive and monitoring what they are doing while they are driving we may not have this problem. But as everyone knows not everyone cares to be a responsible adult. |

definitely, but in a year so i wont have to wait more to get my license |

There just needs to be harsher penalties for teen drivers. |

no,but i also think there needs to be more rigid tests and srtronger reqirements as well. Some states like the plain states actually let U drive as early as 14,but again, how many people are there to maim or kill anyways.U might end up killing a few cars though. |
