Do you think that you should be allowed to talk on the phone and drive at the same time?

i do not think that it is safe. 25% of car crashes are caused by talking on the phone and driving

when i was 15 my 3 best friends died in a car accident. A lady talking on her cell phone failed to stop for a red light and plowed into them killing all 3 of them. So no I think we can all just get from point A to point B without talking to anyone outside of the car, just like we did for centuries past.

irishboodah
I drive alot, and i can say from experience that people would drive much better if they shoved the phone up their ***

I think they should arrest anybody talking on a cell phone while driving! If you ever get behind someone talking on the phone while driving they speed up and then slow down and drift all over the road just like a drunk driver.

I personally believe that a moving vehicle is a lethal machine and requires one's full attention when operating it; therefore, I do not think people should talk on a telephone when driving.

No I don't. Too bad there wasn't some way to make them unusable in a car while the car is in Drive.
What's funny is people that don't even realize how bad they are driving when they do it. My husband is all over the road when he's on the phone, but if I point it out to him he tell me I'm wrong.
A car is a massive amount of steel traveling at high rates of speed and I think needs your full attention while in control of it, otherwise awful things can happen. It only takes 1 second to lose your focus and cause an accident. Yes you can be distracted my other things, but cell phones are the biggest problem besides driving under the influence.

bluff mike
Its about the same as driving under the influence of alcohol.

Anything that takes your attention away from driving is not safe. This includes fiddling with the radio, trying to read your GPS, and talking on the phone. It also includes eating that donut, drinking that coke, and trying to get your radar detector plugged in. Although with cell phones talking isn't as bad as taking your eyes off the road trying to dial it. Hands free headsets at least let you keep both hands on the wheel.

Worst thing in the world. They need to make something that will prevent a cell phone from working in a moving car.

this is probably true, but then all emergency drivers also use cell phones,so how do we make the riles for this ,how can we say WHO can,,and who cannot talk on them while driving,,good question though.

Chicklet
I don't think that it should be allowed. However, I think that eating or drinking coffee while driving is probably more dangerous.

JOHN G
Absolutely! Safety is an individual's responsibility, not the government's.

And where do you get that number, 25%? That's not true. Between drunk drivers, sleepers, teen drivers and weather related accidents, I KNOW there's not room for 25% of any other reason. Much less something that little over half the population has in their posession! That's counting non-driving children.

I am adament about this because these were first introduced as car phones. We still call them mobile phones. They've been around for a long time.

The big deal about talking and driving wasn't made up until manufacturers developed hands free setups, just as I'm sure any developer of an automatic makeup machine would call for the ban of applying makeup in the car.

As long as Restaraunts have drive up windows, for as long as parents are allowed to have children in their car and until they outlaw reading or talking with the passengers of one's vehicles, I will stand against any law banning cell phone use in cars.

i don't think you should unless your really good at mutitasking.

Graham Cracker Head
Yes I think you should be able to. I unlike other people can walk and chew bubblegum at the same time. If you cant maybe you should turn off the radio and not allow any talking between passengers too.
And where do people get these statistics.....who makes up this junk.

babyjassi960
I am doing a research paper and after reading all these comment i thought if there is a hands free device to talk on the phone isnt it the same thing as talking on a regular phone pretty much instead of waisting money put your phone on speaker. But I understand people dont like seing drivers talking on the phone i notice that about half the people who commented did talk on the phone at one time or another. You dont notice but either way its like a movie theater just TURN OFF THE PHONE !!!!!!!!!!
