No 13 isn't too young as long as he's with you. You can get a learners permit at 14 where I'm from. I started driving tractors around the farm when I was 7.

Nah, as long as you're not on the road, I think it's fine. For your dad's protection though, I would get the police's opinion, since parking lots are public places. And I believe he would get the ticket if you were caught operating the vehicle under aged, without a license. If it was just around your lawn I wouldn't worry at all (I used to do that when I was 14, it was SO much fun! LOL!) But all in all, I think it's fine as long as you're just doing it for fun, to get a head start on the way a car operates, and not doing wheelies and other silly stuff..........

You need to watch in parking lots- both you and your dad could get in trouble if the police want to push the issue for an unlicensed driver driving and an adult allowing an unlicensed person to operate a vehicle. If this does happen, it could cost you from being able to get your license until you are 18, possibly even 21 in some states.

Even though a parking lot is private property, the public still has access to it. Therefore the police has jurisdiction. To be totally safe, your dad needs to take you to private property that has no public access- like someones hay field, farm & such.

If he is going to use a parking lot, then he's going to have to take his chances.

Actually yes 13 is too young to be learning to drive. You may be mature for your age, but you need to know what the law says. In most states, the law is that you cannot operate a commercial vehicle unless you are of age which is usually 15 and above, and if you are licensed (learner's, provisional, full driver's license). Those that are telling you, that you are not too young, they are forgetting one detail. It is against the law to be driving at your age. Don't take their advice because it isn't sound advice. You would be breaking the law if you drove without a license and you were not of age. I don't know what state you are from, but you need to find out the age you can drive, and what methods you should go through to get your license.

going through alot doesnt justify anything....i think that there are and have been teenagers, that have gone through a lot...me being one of them... but what u have to realize is that when a parent loves their child, the parents provides for the child and gets after the teen and even yells at then now and again...but if ur parent isnt in ur life is because the parent doesnt care...thank God u have parents that care... i assume///dont try do grow up so fast even if u feel grownup;..cuz when ur grown up... thats its... there is nothing else

i started when i was about 8 sittn in my dads lap as he worked the gas and brakes then when i was about 10 my mom and dad would let me and my brother drive by ourself on dirt and gravel roads they didnt let us get on any paved roads we grew up on a farm 2.. have fun and listen

No I Think Its Fine Because One Time My Mom Took Me When I Was Only 9 Years Old And Took Me Too My School On A Weekend So I Could Drive Around The School Parking Lot It Was Really Fun!!
