Do you think we could reduce road rage by developing more pleasant sounding car horns?

Wow! I guess people really hate this idea. Just to clarify, I'm not suggesting a change in volume, just the tone. Sometimes in a dangerous situation you really need to get someone's attention (like when a pedestrian is stepping into your path). More often, though, we use our horns for less life threatening reasons (like when the person in front of you hasn't noticed that the traffic light has changed). Everyone has to hear someone who is honking. It's not just the person that the honking is directed at. Some people seem to drive around leaning on their horns. Since we all have to hear it, I just thought it would be nice if it wasn't so obnoxious sounding.

Maybe car horns should have muliple tones, an "emergency" or "Urgent" tone, a friendly "Hello" tone, and a "Get the %$#@ OUT OF MY WAY, tone. Maybe three little buttons on the steering wheel.... ? Interesting question though....

i think if you have nicer sounding horns would cause more road rage. The horns now relieve stress and make you fell a little better. To change them would change them would enable people to actually get out of there cars and beat someone

are you kidding ? we need drivers who can actually drive. Just remember dont drive at the speed limit in left lane, move over to the right .that will lesson my rage!

I think they should scream, "I'm an idiot!" So everytime they keep honking their horn, it would scream, "I'm an idiot! I'm and idiot! I'm an idiot!" That would also stop those people that would rather honk their horn than walk up to the house and knock on the door.

I think pushing a "toned down" horn would be something like trying to slam a cordless phone - very unsatisfactory.

The tone of a horn is deliberately abrasive so as to call attention to itself, like an alarm clock.

'Road rage' is a made-up term. When people do stupid things in front of other people, they will make the other person mad at them. If someone points out to you that you're driving like an idiot, don't give them the finger, give them the wave and let them get past you.

If you do something dumb in front of someone, they honk the horn, and you're on your cellphone - hang up immediately.

When you're driving, your primary job is to pay attention. Speed limits are somewhat arbitrary, but pay attention.

No I don't think that would help as the actual act of hitting the horn is an aggressive gesture. Would we have less anger in the world if we came up with a more pleasant way to give somebody the finger??

do away with horns completly, if your about to be in an accident the last thing you need to be worried about is honkin the horn, why do we really need a horn, most people hate to hear one
