it doesn't matter whose kid it is, if they are under 8, then they have to be in a car seat. |

Yes, even those who are not your children, must be protected by a booster seat. They are riding in your car and you would be the accountable driver in the event of a traffic stop, or God forbid an accident. If the child's parent can't supply a seat and you don't have one, then the child can't ride legally. The laws regarding child safety in automobiles, are meant to save lives, and are far from stupid. |

yes any child under 8 must be in a carseat. |

That would apply to ANY child.
The mother of that child would have to supply the seat - or no ride. Good for the child. Good for you.

Just because it isn't your child, it doesn't mean the child won't get hurt. It is just like seatbelt law. EVERY BODY has to wear it too, not just the car's owner (and family).
good Luck... |

of course the kids friend needs a booster seat too. it's a safety issue. is the life of the friend less valuable then the life of your kid? |

Not any more. The law is for everyone that rides in your car. |

It's a safety thing so yes. I don't think it's a necessary law and the parent or adult of the child should get to choose how they feel necessary to keep them safe and same with the seatbelt law. |

Why take a chance even if it`s not the law.

I looked it up and you are right >>>> Illinois allows a child to be completely unrestrained because the driver is not the child's parent. A non-parent driver must only restrain a child when the parent provides a child safety seat.
I think that everyone needs to get the Illinois legislature to change this cause it might just save some childs life. |

Well techinically the child is in your care and if the cops noticed then they wouldnt be looking for whos the parent because actually as long as he is in your care your responsible for him and I only see that a child should use a booster seat until its 3 or 4 theirs nothing they could say to you as long as it can sit up on its own and is buckled. |
