from experience, the seat itself only helps keep you in your seat during hard cornering, but not exactly for safety. it's shaped such so that you don't slide left or right while turning. for safety, you're right, it's the 3/4/5 point safety harness that it's compatible with that makes it safer than a traditional seat.
