Does any one else get nervous when they are being tailed on the road?
|
I notice that when drivers tail me while I am on the road because im not going fast enough for them, I get really tense and nervous. I end up not focusing on the road and staring into my rear view mirror because I fear being hit.
Does any one else feel this way when being tailed? I hate it so much! Please, just PASS ME if im going too slow for you! (and yeah, they do this even though im going 60 in a 50 speed limit road >_>). Additional Details groovechampion. dont assume. I never dirve below the speedlimit, and this always happens on 2-3 lane roads.

I pull over and let them pass. They'll only end up behind another car anyway. |

Seems like we are in the same boat.. er..car. Except for a vehicle going much slower than the speed limit, following too close is always the fault of the vehicle behind. The following vehicle is responsible for maintaining the proper distance from the vehicle in front. If the vehicle behind is on your bumper, that is cause for the police to pull them over for either following too close and/or aggressive driving. This is really a pain on a 2-lane (each way) highway, especially with big rigs leap frogging each other.
Take your time and concentrate on driving your vehicle. If it becomes too annoying, casually signal and pull over and let them pass. It's not worth the hassle.
All the best. |

They don't scare me; they pysse me off. Normally I pull over when another vehicle is attempting to get past. But you can't always do that and the driver behind is fully aware of that fact. If they choose to press the issue I just flip on the cruise control and motor along until it is safe to allow them to pass. Odds are that I am already doing 10-15 over the speed limit anyway. If the person behind cannot wait until I can safely negotiate a lane change then that's just too darn bad for them. They should have left home 10 minutes earlier like I did.
I will never deliberately hold up another driver that is travelling faster than I am but I will not put other traffic at risk just to please him either. And if I am already speeding I am certainly not going to speed up any more.
And I never tap the brake. I used to have a car with rear fog lamps and I hit the switch once on a tailgater and damn near caused a three vehicle accident. That was just stupid of me. |

Well since you are from a no-fault state it would likely be a 50/50 split unless the insurance companies fight it out but I understand what you are saying and the best thing would be to pull over to the side if at all possible even though you are in the right.... |

yeah I usually take my right foot and tap the brakes often or slow down even more just to p*** them off since they insist on p****** me off. I dont have the nerve to slam on brakes so they'll hit me and lie and say there was a big dog or something that ran out in front of me lol. |

I hate that too, but I just ignore them and hope they turn off. I don't let it bother me. I just pretend they're not there. I don't tap the brakes like others have said. If you tap the brakes, but don't slow down; then when you do slow down, they won't believe your brake lights. And also, if you slow down that may not stop them from tailgating you. It'll just make them more mad and impatient and drive more aggressively. And you wouldn't want an aggressively or road rage driver behind you. The best thing to do is to pull over and let them get ahead of you. |

I HATE IT! My mom always taught me when I was driving if someone did that to like put my hand up like I'm shrugging. I get super nervous when people do that, especially when I'm speeding to begin with...I know the natural thing is to remember that if they hit you then it's their fault but what if they hit you and things turn out fatal?! It's like wtf, really...Just be patient and I'll scoot over for you...and then you can speed off past me, c'mon. Get on top of it. |

Just keep in mind if they do hit you, it's their fault. Slow down more until they pass you, but it doesn't matter there's always another one. You'll eventually get to where it doesn't bother you as much. |

If it is a one lane road, drive an appropriate speed. If you can not comfortably drive the correct speed, do not drive a vehicle. If however you ARE always about 10 mph above the speed limit and they still tailgate; tap the brakes. They will back off. |
