Does driving significantly improve after first 6-months of driving?

Yes and No.........it depends on if the person whats to be a better driver or just a show off but I would say that most young drivers do try their best. |

It depends on the person.
If for the first 6 months they decide to show-off for their friends and take joy-rides, driving will not improve.
If they try to pay attention to the road and learn where to be careful and what to do to stay away from accidents, then they will most likely improve.
Unfortunately most people just do the first thing. |

Actually, it takes several years of paying attention and driving carefully in all different condtions to become what I would consider a good driver. It is a gradual learning process. That can happen faster with advanced driving courses, professional courses, or performance/safety manoeuvre courses. Some people never, ever become good. |

You need to give yourself time to adapt to certain conditions that you may not have experienced yet. For example, driving between two semis on a freeway on a curve - that can be scary. Or, handling a little slipping-n-sliding when the road conditions are less than ideal.
I can tell you that it took me several years to feel perfectly comfortable. Not that it has anything to do with it, but I was a high-school and college athlete.
I think you should give yourself time. No one will give you a lower grade if it takes you more than 6 months. It is up to you and you alone to determine comfort in a variety of road conditions, which I may answer your question with regard to 'significant improvement'. |

Some will say yes But during 25 years as an instructor I learned something every year . We used to get examined every year no one ever got a perfect score.. |

How does one improve on doing something that is so ridiculously easy to do?..I mean it is so mundane and repetitive - step on a pedal, turn the wheel...See?..Nothing to it!
All we can do is understand completely that we drivers are the guidance and control computer for a 4000 lb machine...And that if we don't do it right every time out of the box, somebody's gonna get hurt..."Significantly improve" behind the wheel means doing it smart and right everytime the key is turned. |

in most cases it gets worse. |

Ha! Not necessarily. I guess it depends on whether you see something wrong with the way you drive as a step to improve it. |
