Does wearing a safety seat belt really means its safer?

Seat belts are not meant to keep traffic accidents down, how is a seat belt suppose to do that? That is the drivers responsibility. The seat belt is meant to protect the driver or occupant from getting seriously hurt

seat belts save lives when accidents, accidentally, happen. There have been few cases of people surviving an accident due to the fact that they were NOT wearing a seat belt. But it's usually the case that people die because they were not wearing the belt.

Just last week, I was at my friend's shop which is along a busy road. A dumptruck decided to overtake a smaller and slower car. Oncoming was a jeep with children in the back.

The driver died on the scene, his head hit steering wheel then the windshield, his head was cut open like a cantelope..blood and parts of his brains fell out. The children were flung out of the jeep, 1 died, others were taken to the hospital. If that man was wearing a seat belt, his brains wouldn't be on the road.

If u dont believe me, I have pictures of the crime scene, I was told to take pictures of the scene and was forwarded to the police.

At least a seatbelt keeps u safer. Safer than not wearing one.

however i feel that seats belts are dangerous wearing or not wearing them they are suppose to keep you from serious injuries then have been known to rip and pull away and bam your on your own air bags are just as bad

Seat belts are not supposed to lower the number of accidents. They are there to lessen the degree of injury in the event of an accident.

Seat belts do not decrease traffic accidents, they are used to prevent more serious injuries.

Wearing a seatbelt stops more deaths........ it doesn't stop more accidents!
I suppose people feel that if they are wearing a seat belt and they crash they stand a better chance of survival, so maybe they are driving more eratically thinking they themselves will be safer, they haven't taken into consideration the fact that there are others on the road who may not be so quick with their reactions.
Everyone has to wear a seatbelt though because of the way other people drive! We are not mind readers, we cannot see around corners so isn't it best to take precautions!
I would sooner see a crash where all you see are 2 cars hitting eachother rather than 2 cars hitting eachother and the passengers come flying through the windscreen. I would have thought common sense alone would make most peopl wear one!

They are not meant to prevent traffic accidents. Where did you get that idea from?

They're meant to keep you from smashing your head into the windows; flying out of the car; flying into front seat passengers from the back seat etc. i.e they're meant to save your life. If you're a lousy driver it's not going to help.

You're talking about "risk compensation". Studies have shown that people driving a car with lots of safety features, such as belts, airbags, and the like, are more likely to drive faster and with less care because of the added sense of security the safety devices provide, and actually CAN increase the rate of accidents. Just goes to show that the most important safety device is a careful driver. That being said, you are better off wearing your belt than not, it will sustantially reduce the risk of injuries in the event of an accident. Any talk of being 'thrown clear' of the wreck is nonsense, when people are ejected from vehicles, most of them are hit by the vehicle or have it roll over them.

Why is it the policemens business wheather if I wear a seat belt in my own car? I'm only hurting myself not them or any one else. Soon we will have no rights like in other countries. We will be told how to live our supposed-to-be free lives. Besides partly due to my seat belt my unborn child died when I had an accident. Also people have been decapitated due to seat belts or killed due to the fact they couldn't get them open.
