You should actually check out AMA sidecarmtocross-totally different than what you describe. I piloted an mx sidecar at a vintage motocross a few years ago. I am an itnermediate mxer...mostly since I am too lazy to get in really mx good shape. Still I can go like crazy for four laps and usually get through the last lap fine.
On the sidecar, it was the most physical thing I have done including football, a week of floor hand rig training, and years of labor jobs. Then, I found out the hard way that the"monkey" or passenger works harder than the pilot. I think it is probably close to this tough for a road racing sidecar rig. |

No worse than you do sitting next to your mommy in the car. Just think, if you cut loose a sidecar to avoid an accident, where would it go? Rolling down the street on one wheel? |

Accident would happen so fast he wouldn't have time to disengage, and besides that, it isn't just pull a pin type thing. Side cars are cool. Ask anyone that has one in Sturgis in August, and see what they say. |

And what's different from that and the b*tch seat passenger just sitting there? It's not a great idea to move around a lot, lest the operator lose control.
As for passenger being able to detach the sidecar, that's iffy...they might be able to save themselves but might also cause themselves worse harm... |

If you ever sat in a sidecar you would have answered your own question. It is quite a different experience from sitting in a car or on a motorcycle. It is a thrilling experience and can be alot of fun. No worrys about controling the vehicle because you are a passenger. |

no dude...thats the cool part.............just sit there and enjoy the ride. I dont think they look dorky at all. In the olden days the ons who sits in the side are the "masters" while the "driver" rides the motorcycle |

I'd only have one if i had a big dog that wore kool sunglasses and a scarf or something.
But generally, yes, sidecars look silly and upset the handling of the motorcycle. |

Yes, they do look dorky, I have always thought this. As far as releasing themselves, sure. |
