im in freakin middle school and i barely dont need to use a booster seat! im 5 feet. in all the comercials it says that you should use a booster seat untill you are 4 foot 9. i think thats crazy! i even know someone in my grade that is a lot shorter than me! who else agrees that 4 foot 9 is too tall. i guess it isnt if you are a really tall little kid but still!

I totally agree that is so stupid. If my aunt followed that advice my cousin would still be in a booster seat and she is in 6th grade!! I told my mom that a commercial said that the other day and she said "it didnt say that im sure you misunderstood." thank you so much for asking this question now i know im not crazy. |

5 step test for booster seat use
1. Does your child sit all the way back against the auto seat?
2. Do your child's knees bend comfortably at the edge of the auto seat?
3. Is the lap belt below the tummy, touching the thighs?
4. Is the shoulder belt centered on the shoulder and chest?
5. Can your child stay seated like this for the whole trip?
If you answered no to any of these questions, your child needs a booster seat to ride safely in the car.
But the law is pretty specific: NHTSA recommends booster seats for children until they are at least 8 years old or 4 feet 9 inches tall.
Did you miss the 8 years old in there? I guess so if you're talking middle school. |

I know some full-grown adults who don't meet that height requirement. So should they be using a booster seat? :)

Most state laws allow for a certain age limit, here in GA it is children under 6 years old are required to use a booster seat unless over 57". Although it is recommended for any child up to age 9 (or over 4'9" tall) to be in a booster seat no matter what your state laws are.

I think that the law is ridiculous. I personally am tired of the government protecting me. I would use a child safety seat even if there weren’t a law. I wore safety belts long before it was even a law. That’s my prerogative, but I think that it’s wrong for us as a society to tell somebody else that they have to wear a seatbelt, make their child wear a bicycle helmet, and or place their children in child restraining seats! It’s their business. If they’re too stupid to buckle up and secure their children, it’s Mother Nature’s way of weeding out the stupid people.
The insurance companies are behind all this and that’s why it’s a law. I’d rather have them tell me that than the propaganda that I see and hear through the government controlled media about how it’s all for my safety, “If it saves one life, it’s worth it!” Oh God I could puke on the next person that says that!
When I was a kid, we rode around in the back of a pickup truck after a ballgame. While guzzling beers, our fathers sat four abreast in a 1965 ford, that didn’t even have seat belts. I couldn’t imagine doing that today. I couldn’t imagine it not because it’s so bad and people “could have been killed,” but rather due to the draconian laws. I’d hate to watch my father hand cuffed and taken to jail for all the felonies that he’d committed. My mother and I would have lost our house, I’d probably have gone into foster care, I’d have been mistreated by my foster parents, and I’d currently be serving life for murder, rape, and robbery. Yes I love laws to protect us from ourselves!
The funny thing about my childhood memories is that I don’t ever remember anybody getting killed. It’s far more dangerous to drive today with all the sober drivers, strapped in, whipping in and out of traffic, in a hurry, and yapping on the cell phone. |
