You SHOULD be safe after 4 hours... provided the drinks were really just 4 shots / bottles worth of alcohol and you weren't doing some extra-proof liquors or "nursing" a bottle for any moments during those 4 hours.

But it also depends how you drank. Over what time span did you have those 4 drinks? Did you start drinking at 3 PM and have a drink per hour? If so, you'll definitely be cool by 11 PM, since the alcohol of each earlier drink will have filtered out through your kidneys. But if you had all 4 from 6-7 PM, your kidneys are working overtime to filter it, and there are other factors (how much food you ate, etc.)

It helps to drink a lot of water too.

If I know I have to drive after drinking a lot, I'll usually switch to soda pop or water and eat something, and then wait the amount of time like you said (1 hour per shot/glass/bottle). Never had an issue, and passed breathalyzer tests with no problem. (My dad insisted that I have one in my car and always test before driving home... and call him if I was over, no matter what, when, or where, with no questions asked.)

But, these days, driving DUI is really no worse than driving while using a cell phone... and most states still don't think that's a big deal.

For the sake of the small fee for a taxi I wouldnt risk it.

U may be fine to drive but if some ones else crashes in to you @ no fault of your own - u may still have to take as breath test and may still fail

math and alcohol don't mix. i doubt that next time you're at a party you're going to concentrate on monitoring the correlation between the time and your alcohol intake while you're havin fun with some people.

if you're gonna drink with keys in your pocket, you'd better have some balls behind the wheel.

In theory yes, but dont chance it. Our bodies process things at a different rate. I found this out the hard way!!!

depending on the legal limit where you live you may be allowed to drive sooner, but it still isn't recommended

your body digest one oz every hour. if you had 4 shots thats 1.5 oz a shot so it would take 6 hours until your BA would be down to a safe level. I wouldnt drive until 3am if I was you
