Driveing tips?

take some deep breaths and remember that your best judgement will come when you're thinking clearly instead of worrying...if conditions are bad just don't drive as fast and you'll be fine

oh yes i remember the day when i first took drivers training. i was terrified. i was so nervous that my hands were trembling when i first began. just take deep calm breaths while your behind the wheel. also get to know your instructor because the more comfortable you are with him/her the more comfortable you will be behind the wheel. i find that freeway driving is much more easier. all you go ia go forward. if it rains that slow down a couple miles.

1) Dont be nervous- that is the #1 thing that will catch you off guard.

2) The most difficult thing that there is about driving on the highway is merging into traffic. That will become second nature with some practice.

3) While you are merging, keep in mind that there will be a guard rail on your right hand side, and that while merging into traffic on the left, you need to watch for cars, but also at the same time, you need to make sure you aren't slowly moving into the guard rail.

4) Dont forget about blind spots, they exist on highways too :)
This is especially true when you are merging.

5) Probably the most important thing while actually driving on the highway is to keep looking as far ahead as you can. Dont look at the ground in front of you, or just the back end of the car and lanes. You'll be surprised how well this will work. It is because you are using your peripheral vision to have the car where you need it to be.

6) Pay attention.

You'll get used to it soon, but please dont be one of the people who try to shave/apply makeup, read, etc,etc... while driving.

you are scared of rain on the road?

what if it was sunny the day you wrecked? would you never drive in the sun?

sorry, maybe its just because i live in THE RAINFOREST i think that reasoning is just plain silly.

I think you are suffering from "the unknown factor"....................you've never driven on a freeway before.
Remember, you aren't alone. Your instructor will be with you. He/She wouldn't take you out on the freeway if he/she thought you couldn't handle it. Ask him/her to explain merging to you and fitting into traffic before you go.
If it rains, all you do is drive a bit slower and increase your following distance.
Freeway driving requires a lot of vigilance. You have to look for potential hazards and poor decisions made by other drivers.
You have had some time to build up this fear. Once you have gone down a simple, straight "on ramp" and merged safely, the next one will be easier.
Your instructor will give you information on merging, exiting, passing, following distances, which lanes to use, etc.
Don't worry, you'll be fine.
If it rains, remember where the windshield wipers are......(grin)
Relax and enjoy the learning experience.

ok i just got my lerners permit the beginning of this month and i found that when i am nervous to take in the big picture. Millions of people drive cars so it can't possibly be that hard and u are guiding the car so it does all the work, think like u r cruising instead of driving and the more relaxed you r the smoother the cruise will b. as for the rain its no big deal just reduce your speed. hope this helps good luck tomorrow
