Driving learner roundabouts?

When you're in 4th and heading towards a roundabout, do you brake and then change down to 3rd and then 2nd without taking foot off the brake?

I go straight from 4th to 2nd. Doesn't hurt to jump the gears, unless your instructor is telling you not to (best to listen to them - may be a good reason). Otherwise I guess it depends how much you need to slow down

BIG D
I slow down, then check the speed with the brakes then change gear.

When i was learning and i was approaching a roundabout i slowed down with the brake then lisened to the engine changed gear on the approach to 2nd then 1st if i have to stop. If you do it correctly you do not need to keep your foot on the brake and you don't have to change down every gear. it is all to do with timing you don't want to change to early or you will have to travel to get to the roundabout and the engine may not have slowed down enough to 2nd gear which it will make a horrible noise like it is screaming.

Remember drop a gear below 2000 revs and up a gear above 2000 revs

1st for speeds up to 10mph
2nd for speeds up to 20mph
3rd '' '' '' '' 30-40mph
4th '' '' '' '' 40mph
5th for faster speeds on open road

Depends on how big the roundabout is and what you can see on approach.

Large roundabout with good view, you can stay in 4th gear, brake and if you are able to go, select the correct gear for the speed you are now going.

Small roundabout without a good view, brake to about 15mph, select 2nd gear if you can go or continue to brake and select 1st gear if you have to stop.

The main thing is that you slow down and select a gear when you know what you are going to do next ie; stop or carry on.

You are okay to brake and change gear at the same time, but not for an advanced driving test.

Mirror, Signal, manouvre (get in lane) then gently braking, keeping your foot on the brake the whole time from 4th to coming to a full halt in second.
