Driving to big bear tomorow do i need chains?

We are going in a two wheel drive Sequoia and i am really afraid its going to be icy. The for cast says it is not going to snow and its fairly sunny tomorow and thursday but should we still get chains?

When in doubt, take them. Better to have them and not need them than need and not have.

You should, at least, be carrying chains in the car. Winter mountain driving is extremely changable. A fair weather forcast can change in a matter of hours. You could drive up in bright, sunny weather only to find yourself stranded the next day, unable to get out because you have no chains.
I once spend a nice, sunny weekend in Reno, one year in June, only to find it snowing on the morning we were to return to the San Francisco Bay area. We go to the mountains about a half dozen times a year. I found it much easier to just keep chains in my cars ALL the time than to have to worry about finding them, or forgetting them in the few times I've needed them. |
