People do it as they get more experienced, but it's not all that safe. If you're driving with one hand and hit a bad pothole, or have a tire blowout, or have to contend with strong winds, you could lose control in the time it takes to get the other hand on the wheel. I've had tires blow out, had to drive in very strong winds, and hit very bad potholes (I'm an older driver who lived in the Canadian north at one time) , so these examples come from real life experience.

Well if your not that experienced yet then maybe you should keep two hands on the wheel. I usually drive with one hand too and my chair back, my dad always yells at me because he thinks i sleep at the wheel. The right way to drive is with 2 hands. Don't show off just yet because no one wants to see an accident.

As people become more experienced as drivers, they tend to sometimes develop bad habits. In many areas, you are perfectly capable of maintaining control of your vehicle with one hand.... as you drive more and more, you will figure out when these times are. In other areas, people drive with one hand when they should be using two.... busy highways around rush hour for example. Unfortunately, more often than not, people are using the other hand to talk on the phone, check e-mail and send text messages. YES, YES, I know others use the same spare hand to smoke cigarettes, eat a snack, or drink coffee. The point I'm trying to make is that as long as you are focusing on the road and develop good driving habits, there are occasions when it is o.k. to use your free hand to take care of something inside the car.... say tune the radio or shift in a manual transmission car.

Never involve yourself with something in the driver's seat that you can't instantly drop and pay attention to the road again. Like eating a meatball sub.... I've seen it done and laughed when the guy dropped it on his white leather seat!!!

you are supposed to have both hands on the wheel. most people don't for various reasons being cell phone , radios , smoking, drinking and even eating. but you are really supposed to have both hands on the wheel and both eyes on the road. as for being cool looking well how does seeing someone in a wheel chair look to you?

its easier...when you first start driving your still working on staying on the road but eventually youll be on the phone or switching the radio station or driving a manual car and youll see its easier...drive however your comfortable driving to look cool is stupid because it affects your driving skill and you therefore look retarded so just get comfortable first and then decide how you want to drive

People start driving with one hand because driving becomes boring after awhile. You need the other hand to lean on, practically falling asleep behind the wheel. You will get to this point soon so enjoy your first few months of driving because the fun doesn't last. It will end up being just another annoying chore that needs to be done.

It's not cool. It's just a thing you can do as you become more experienced. My dad does it all the time because he's been driving for over 25 years now. Since I started driving, just last year, I use both hands because I'm not that experienced yet. I feel safer and more in control when I drive with both hands. The reason why people drive with one hand is because driving isn't hard, it's so easy that all they need is only one hand to drive. Some say it's a bad habit, others say it's because driving became so easy to do. I agree.

Depends on the age your referring to ,,, If your young , your probably trying to be cool.. If your older it's just habit ...
I guess it would look cool to a new driver, Funny I've never though of this as being cool or anything close,, I just do it naturally, That's drive with one hand .... But it's the law to drive with 2 hands , one at 10 and one at 2 ( so to speak )
It's much safer , You have much better control of your vehicle, just in case anything happens.. Usually something will happen

after some time you'll start be boring the 2hand driving so you you will drive with one hand...it's cool but be careful while driving in order to react correctly when needed.....it's a nice feeling..!!
