Dump the driver?
|
my wife took her driving test a few weeks back and about 10 minutes into the test the driver terminated the test because he thought she was a dangerous driver because she took a right turn and a bus was coming along the other way even though she did say the bus was further away. This was her second test and she did go all the way in the first so she is not totally a bad driver. Now the examiner told her to park the car and he left her about 2 miles away and walked back to the test centre.I asked a mate who knew an examiner and he said its called ' dump the driver'. i am just wondering if he was right to leave a woman on her own in a strange area.I think he could have drove the car back to the test centre.im more concerned about safety here.

I've heard of many times where the inspector terminates the test early. But I've never heard of them actually walking back - as that leave the person (with only a permit) without a supervision.
For him to walk back 2 miles, she must have done something really dangerous. REALLY DANGEROUS.

But he does NOT have the authority to drive the car back. There's always a remote chance of an accident and they do NOT want to be repsonsible.
Good Luck.... |

Sour grapes;
I wouldn't have thought that she would be two miles from the test centre, and I assume as she was left with the car, she could have locked herself in it if she's paranoid. I also assume that she has a mobile phone & could call you or her instructor.
As per other responses, she must've been bad to have been dumped. If it was the instructor's car & he thought that there was this possibility, he could have sat in the back during the test. If it was her own car, you could have done.
The examiner is just that, he has taken responsibility for your wife's safety by failing her because she's not at the standard required to pass a driving test. |

This is in the UK.
Examiners in the UK can and will terminate a test if the driver is deemed dangerous.
Get your wife to test standard, which takes on average 30 to 40 hours of QUALITY tuition and then sit the test.
Sadly, when I was an instructor I was constantly in arguments with other so-called instructors, who, when their student left the test centre with the examiner would say, "he/she hasn't got a chance"....I would always enquire as to why they allowed their student to put the examiner's life in jeopardy.
Additionally, sometimes the examiner will pass someone even though they "haven't got a chance" because there are certain situations where they have to (too lengthy too explain here).
My point with these "instructors" was this - If their candidate who was not at test standard crashed and injured the examiner or passed (through certain parameters) and injured members of their/my family how would they feel????
YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. PUT THEM IN FOR EXAMINATION WHEN THEY ARE READY.

He would not have been insured to drive the car.
If your wife's driving was unsafe then he made the right decision |

Legally he has the right to 'Dump the driver'
Whether he was right to do so if she was left in a dangerous area is purely for his conscience to decide. |

This is the first time that I have ever heard of this and I still dont believe it because of the liability that the instructor is taking and this should be reported as well as being aired on the news.. |
