Emergency! Drunk Driver? I dont know what to do?

I was trying to go to sleep right now and i heard noise outside so i looked out the window and i saw a car backing up and they just crashed into someone elses car that lives down the steet and the person wasnt driving right and i think they were drunk and they went down the steet and left. should i call the cops? the peoples whose car they hit just ran outside and i saw someone else drive off in a truck. i tihnk they might have gone to chase them. i dont know what to do

the car was like backing up and then it tried to turn and it would keep breaking and there was really loud music.. are those signs driving under the influence?

i tried to get the lisence plate and that was my first instinct but i couldnt find my glasses and by that time, the car already started going away

well my dad just woke up for the bathroom and i told him everything and he said to let them deal with it because i didnt see anyones face and i wouldnt be able to identify anyone and it wouldnt be a good idea for me to go to court if this thing goes that far.

I appreciate that you want to help. But you could not see much, i mean the model of the vehicle, no. or colour etc. Now doing anything would be a futile exercise.

Call the police with and give them as much detail as you can.

This "no snitch" junk is just that. I know that you needed an answer quickly, so don't think I'm being judgemental, just a little info for the future. If you see something, even if it is just the color of a vehicle and the area, you may help save a life. The Police have a job, and part of that is to take a lot of information and make sense of it. Here's a story- A kid was abducted, around St. Louis if I remember right, and no one could recall anything. A garbage driver saw a white s-10 in the area, driving erratically, and called it in to the local police, because it was not long before the child disappeared from his bus stop. About a week later an officer was responding to a different call, and saw an s-10 kind of out of the way in the parking lot, and decided to check it out. They found the owner, gained access to the apartment, and found the child, along with another boy who had been missing for over 4 years. Two children were removed from a tortureous situation, because a garbage man just told them a make and color, it was just enough.

call the police and give them as much information about the car as you can as if this driver was drunk then there is a chance that the next thing they hit might not be a car
if you can discribe the car then that will give them somthing to go on and they can look for it in the area
it shouldn't be to hard to find as it obviously now has some damage done to it from when it hit the van
and besides say the next thing they hit is a child how would you feel knowing that you didn't at least try to prevent it

Your dad is right, you really didn't see anything other than what the neighbor already knows. (Car backed up the street & hit your neighbors car)

Always call 911. Give them any amount of information.
How would you feel if that happened to you? IF someone hurt you physically or your property and because it was so inconvient no one came to your aide or reported the incident.

Why did your Dad say not to get involved?
Doing the right thing is sometimes hard because of the extra work.
Tip.
next time get a pen and paper.write down the following.
1. time of day
2. location
3.exactly what you witnessed
4. what you heard
5. how long it lasted
6. direction of fleeing person or persons and what they wore , the type or color of car. Anything that makes them standout.
7. what you were doing when the inciddent occured.

ASAP visit the police station. Take with you address where this happened, your best guess as to description of vehicle behavior when.

Tell them you were witness to wrong doing, and do they want to take a statement from you.

Ask the police for guidance what you should do the next time you witness anything like this.

I think you should have looked up phone book for police non-emergency, since this does not sound like a 911 to me.

911 is for someone life at risk, need an ambulance, someone house on fire, need fire truck, a serious crime happening right now, we need police here as fast as possible.

Often when we call 911 we get put on hold, so when it is not an emergency, we not want to put more load on that system.

If they pull'd off theres nothing you can do....If you was going to call the cops its to late cuz they pull'd off and you dont have the plate #, So just relax lil mama dont panic..:)

For this incident, it's too late to be helpful. Know that, for the future, calling the police rather than looking for your glasses could allow them, possibly to dispatch a vehicle to catch the driver 'red-handed', in which case all you did was provide an anonymous tip. Time is critical when there's an accident like this. (1) if they are using illegal substances, then they have time to dump any evidence. (2) if they've been drinking, then alcohol wears off in time. catching them 2 hours later may give them enough time to sober up.

Your dad was right to say don't call, but for the wrong reasoning. You could not provide any additional information other than you saw a vehicle not being operated properly, but could not identify the vehicle clearly - you weren't wearing your glasses. Anything you could add to what they already knew could be challenged and therefore wouldn't help any court case.
