Reminds me of a joke...
There was an older man who suddenly found himself being tailed by a state police cruiser with its lights on. Instead of slowing down, he sped up, going faster and faster, but alas, he ran out of gas and had no choice but to pull over.
When the officer appoached the car and asked for an explanation, he answered, "years ago, my ex-wife ran off with a police officer. When I saw you, I was afriad you were the guy and you were trying to bring her back!!!" |

"I'm sorry, Officer, but the phase inverter jammed because of an imbalance in the flux generator caused by overheating of the matrix coil. Consequently the core elements of my momentum controller jammed and I was unable to control the forward velocity of my terra-conveyance. This happened once before when the air/fuel ratio was in excess of normal parameters. I thought I had it fixed". Pray that the cop is a sci-fi fan! |

But the best advice is this: 10 over on a freeway, 5 over on a city street, ZERO over on a residential road (there's kids out there, dammit). Do these things and the cops will leave you alone.

True story told to me by a high school teacher/former cop. A lady got pulled over and begged the officer not to give her a ticket.
She said "If you don't give me a ticket, I'll donate to the policeman's ball." Of course, she was thinking of the FIREMAN'S ball.
Not thinking, the officer said, "Maam, policemen don't have balls."
Both of them immediately started laughing uncontrollably, and he let her off with a warning! |
